I would imagine our sponsorship money would only increase if the huns fold. They are holding us back as it is.
So what you are saying really is that those with Irish heritage in Glasgow are unionists by and large
Glasgow is a strong labour party city regardless of which side of the Old Firm you are on. Bit ironic considering British foreign policy under Labour recently.
The SPL pulls in lowly tv sums, ergo Celtic are largely indifferent to any loss of revenue to the league as a whole. Celtic play 2 home games against Rangers and might have a drop in revenue from ticket sales as a result but this is probably compensated for by revenue from an extra game in Europe.
Celtic would certainly expect to in more sponsorship money if the huns were no more. The reluctance to favour one club over the other has meant commercial deals have been more difficult with two clubs at the negotiating table.
A day to rejoice.
As someone said on twitter earlier, saying Celtic need the huns is like saying Martin Luther King needed the KKK.
That’s why the joint sponsorship deals are in place alright.
Care to explain the irony?
Why is it ironic?labour mps are far from a homogenous group particularly when it comes to foreign policy.
Glasgow Celtic fans signing Ra songs but then voting in numbers for Tony Blair’s boys. Glasgow Celtic fans being unionists is another one. I’m very surprised to hear that to be honest.
Think we had this discussion before but the Labour party seem popular across the board in Glasgow and have been for some time. The only item where supporters really differ is on the Irish question across the sea.
The joint sponsorship deals are in place so not to alienate the other side, when the huns become irrelevant, there is no backlash of they picked them over us or the like. Celtic then become the one massive club that represent the Scottish league. While the TV money would definitely decrease, it would make very little difference to Celtic as it’s only a pittance of our annual turnover. We could probably make the difference up in our sponsorship increases and the fact we will inevitably get the opportunity to compete in the Champions League each season.
This will be happening simultaneously while Birmingham Aston Villa languish in the English Championship.

BBC Reporting Scotland:
I am lead to believe Celtic got around 12 million in TV money last year. Their total income was over 60 million so it would be around 20% give or take. even it it was to half it is hardly a huge loss to their revenue especially as the club is pretty much debt free and as has been said a half decent run in europe would more than make up for it.
That’s supposed to explain: “Bit ironic considering British foreign policy under Labour recently”? That’s just your stock post on these threads, it doesn’t answer the question, not is it in any way relevant to the discussion.
£12m would have been the league’s take I’m sure Louie?
Could well be. 12 million was the figure being banded about, if it is for the whole league then Celtic are elected
The English Championship would be a lot stronger than a Glasgow Rangers less SPL. The SPL is pretty worthless as is, without its biggest club and the Old Firm sectarian hatred, it becomes even less of an irrelevance. The Ibrox outfit arent gone though are they, just administration? The Hoops would seriously want to consider moving leagues now. If it is hard to attract decent players to play in the SPL now, it could be a lot harder if only one side of the Old Firm remain. Glasgow Celtic are nowhere near being competitive in Europe at the moment, how is this going to suddenly change?
I think when the dust settles there will be a realisation that this is a very bad day for Scottish football and the SPL. It has been coming for a while so you would think some contingencies have been put in place.
Birmingham seem on the way up again. Chris Hughton doing a fine job there
Celtic’s revenue last year was £7m for all multimedia including European matches (only two in year to 30th June 2011) and any other internet or broadcasting rights. The actual SPL rights are around £3-4m I think.
I think we only take something like a £1-2m in for TV money a year, so it’s a pittance to us.
Still voting for Blair/Brown regardless of whether the local rep is an alright sort or not
Labour would have been the most Irish friendly party in Scotland.Majority of Labour candidates in Glasgow represent traditional labour values. Only need to look at Iraq war to see evidence of that. I don’t see the irony. Being an Irish nationalist and voting labour aren’t mutually exclusive KIB. If they are u better tell red ken sharpish.
By voting Labour you were endorsing the interventionist foreign policies of their leadership. To do that and sing go home British soldiers etc seems a bit ironic to me anyway. Should be clear to someone as short sighted as yourself even
