This could be a blessing in disguise for everyone (except me) to start saying āMalachyā this and āPat Simonā that, again.
But the point stands that our depth at midfield is very shallow.
Malachy has to get a run.
Our depth at midfield isnāt all that bad. Losing Browne is a loss but both Daragh o donovan and cian lynch are close to 70 minute players. Lynch is anyway for sure. Colin Ryan and WOD are good options and you could always play Kyle Hayes there. I feel sorry for Browne but definitely not a massive loss. Could have been a lot worse.

Midfield isnāt the worst for backups. Thereās any number of players that could do a job there, or have played there in the past at some level. Half-back line would be where we are thin on the ground.
We should parachute Ronan Lynch in there.
Hickey and WOD cover half back and youād trust both of them there. OāDonoghue is the only obvious replacement for midfield and heāll be seeing game time because DOD doesnāt last near 70. Donāt think the other midfield cover are up to it. You could chance hickey. Moving someone else like Hayes leaves another hole to fill at half forward where weāre also light on options.

Iād have no problem with Malachy in midfield for 20-25 minutes towards the end of the game, heās a fine hurler, even if heās not a natural midfielder.
Youād only ever have 2 midfield subs anyway; so himself & WOD would be fine. Iād be against moving someone like Kyle back except if we were really chasing a game and just wanted to get more scoring forwards on.
Browne is a loss but you couldnāt say he made a real impact off the bench in any game.
They should bring Robbie Hanley on to the squad to replace Browne. They had a team meeting and gym session last night and are training tonight. Only players who didnāt get a break were the 21s
