Limerick GAA - All-Ireland senior hurling champions 2018

ah for fuck sake.

Watching Richie open the shoulders and launch it 90 yards down on top of a spare opponent every time and listening to gobdaws saying ha-boy richie and ooooh richie mccarthy.

I thought Kiely and Kinnerk had moved us on from that

We delivered multiple 90 yard balls into a two man fullforward line v cork and won them time and time again. Causing havoc for the cork defense. Giving one of our best displays in recent years.

I’m not 100% certain but I think Conlan scored two in each half, McCarthy didn’t do any better than Casey considering we were playing two loose men in defence. I don’t know what to read into the Clare game. You either put it down to fatigue or at least 5 players should probably be dropped.

Conlon.

Who?

Get over Saturday night first. Take it from there

We may as well given it up if McCarthy comes in for Casey. He had an excellent game on Devine and played well in Cork also.Mike Casey is better than Hickey or McCarthy,

Ive been told, same as the last day from 1 to 9. Gillane will start and Pat Ryan could start.

Kiely has to go Graeme, Flanagan and Gillane. Anything else is crazy.

Gillane has to. I’d be amazed if he doesnt.

It was a mental decision to leave him off v Clare in hindsight.

What I’m hoping for is to put the game to bed early on, no injuries, no dumb red cards like the two we’ve picked up already and then sit back and watch Galway and Kilkenny tear into each other the next day.

If Limerick are to beat Galway or Kilkenny it is going to have to be how we played first three games. Spread it out and make space for puck outs. Run the legs off the fcukers.

Exactly. Team selection is an art not a science. Kiely has to pick the right team. His hands are tied somewhat by the backs available to him. Say it is English, Casey, Finn, Byrnes, Hannon and Dan M. Bar Hannon none are really pacey players or stick hurlers (very good defenders though) so if we try and work the ball through the lines like clare forced us to do we will be in trouble. We have got to play long balls into our aerial dominant and very mobile forwards such as Flanagan, Hayes, Hego, Tom M and Gillane. Our forwards as a unit need to create space for the lad receiving the ball. Flanagan regularly came out onto the touch line and won the ball. He has the pace to take his man on but also the presence of mind to find the runners from deep such as cian lynch and kyle hayes. So many times when the ball comes towards flanagan all the limerick lads peeled away and created that space. He will win 1 on 1 balls in the air all day. The whole attack revolved around this. The defenders have little choice with his pace but to stand him up otherwise he can go through on goal. Gillane, Hayes and Hego can also do this to a lesser extent.

Too many times v Clare Dowling and Flanagan both attacked the same ball. Getting in each others way and it turned into a ruck. The exact opposite to what Limerick want. Our forwards are more athletes than knacky hurlers and will struggle to score in tight spaces or find their men under pressure. What limerick want is space and their forwards on the move. Kiely has to pick the right team.

It’s Carlow we’re playing this weekend for fucks sake doesn’t matter who plays let’s leave debating the team until this time next week.

I’d start Peter Casey to get game time into him, it’s a shot to nothing, but if we’re going to go much further past Carlow we need him.

Cork are woeful sure

They will take serious stopping. They were immense second half and if they bring that steel to their play from the off, they will take bate-ing.

Clare and Limerick winning the QFs setting up a Limerick v Cork semi would be great for the forum
