This game against Cork is huge. Extra weekâs rest and them coming off of such a tough game with only a 6 day turn aroundâŚwe will hardly ever have a better shot. Win that and we roll on to the home game against Waterford (who will be out for the third week in a row by then) with a bit of breathing space. Much and all as I am not convinced by this Clare team, I really dont fancy going to Ennis needing a win.
Fully agree with all that
Next weekends game is no more or less important as it was two weeks ago. There might have been some theorists out there who believed a Cork win would somehow see them take their foot of the pedal next week. If the second half of todayâs game in Thurles was as facile as the first, it would have been the same as a training session for them and they would have been well up for it. From a Limerick perspective the second half was exactly what they needed. Cork were out on their feet come full time and indeed another minute or two and Tipp may well have taken it.
A win next week is now a genuine possibility .
There is still every chance of us going to Ennis already qualified for a Munster final and thatâs what we should aim for.
Tipp showed a big pair of balls in that second half. They also showed how Cork can be bate. Push up on them. Put their backs under pressure and youâll turn the ball over. Corks panel is tight based on the subs they brought in. That Timmy OâMahoney fella almost broke his own back trying to double on the ball. Big awkward cunt
Correct.
Cork are very dangerous when they break the lines and Fitzgibbon and Kearney running at you with 6 forwards roaming all over the place .
Tipperary let them do what they wanted first half.
as soon as their backs were pressed and their runners swamped it fell apart.
Thatâs not to say itâs as easy as that. Cork have some great stickmen and have serious pace.
Limerick will have to up the pace of their game.
Yeah cork have some fine hurlers alright. Itâll be a great battle. We canât allow lehane and harnedy the freedom they got the last 2 days.
Gillane could do wreck in against that full back line with good ball. OâDonoghue is a fine corner back but heâs low sized and Gillane would be as quick as him. Gillane also has oceans more hurling than him. Iâd try get Aaron isolated with him.
Itâll be interesting to see what if any tweaks Kiely will make. Possibly Mike Casey in for Slippy. Any news on Peter? Still out?
Casey may feature on the bench v clare and Waterford but he wonât be really back until the 21 v tipp.
True . If Lk let cork get a run on them they will be well beat . If Lk make it a battle they have a chance.
I donâtâ think this team know when they are beat to be honest, they never seem to panic and always get a second wind and purple patch.
They havenât yet played a real championship match yet so we will see .
When youâre better than your opponentâs itâs never a real match. That tipp performance is understated. We dismantled them.
Lads,
Which stand is the better for tickets. Iâll pick em up during the week but havenât been to the new pairc yet so was just wondering
Did you sort the accommodation?
No not yet
Thereâs a few hostels on McCurtain street that are cheap as fuck and leave you drink away all night.
Much of a muchness Iâd say viewing-wise, south is probably better, has two levels and maybe more facilities. Twas baltic enough in the north last weekend anyway.
Hearing we are going into war unchanged from the last day.
I think we saw today both Corkâs strengths and weaknesses, and what weâll have to do to win. In an open, loose game; I have no doubt Cork will win. They ran riot in the first half. Tipp gave them so much space, and they just ran the legs off them. The Cork backs had time to deliver the ball and the movement was superb but the Tipp backs were very poor imo. So far off their men. You have to be tight; once they get it into their hand, theyâre a serious threat so you have to be right on top of them at the point they receive the ball. To be fair, I think our backs are generally decent enough in that regard.
But then you also have to choke the space in our half-back line and midfield to stop the runners. Tipp did this in the second half. I thought Lehane was very quiet throughout; he was probably bypassed in the first half as they were getting so much joy inside. Fitzgibbon wasnât as influential as he can be either. Iâd still worry about Lehane against us, Hannon will hold the middle but weâll need a plan to deal with Lehane moving to get the ball. Fitzgibbon, you just have to apply the pressure when he gets it. Obviously they are good players and will have their spells but if our work rate is good, weâll stop them having it their own way.
At the other side, I thought Joyce had a shocker. Conlon took him for 5, I think, last week. He gave away the ball very sloppily at times and his skill levels didnât seem up to par. They couldnât cope with John McGrath in the second half, or Noel McGrath really. Our forwards are different to those two, but Iâd still play Hegarty at centre-forward and encourage him to carry it, well able to score. Iâd use Kyle on the right wing to stop them using Coleman as a launchpad and as a puck-out option on that wing. Bonner had a couple of chances today going forward but his striking was just very poor.
Keep the space tight in our backline if at all possible; midfield possibly sit a little deeper to clog the space. Otherwise, gameplan will always be fairly similar- forwards have to work their socks off, thatâs a minimum. Try and create the space in front of the full-forward line and get low ball in front of them. If the half-forwards get it in hand, encourage them to take it on.
Hickey recovered quickly from those two ruptured hamstrings he had walking off the last day
Handy one against Mayo at home in the football qualifiersâŚ
