Limerick GAA - Box Office

He played for Newport for a lot than his final year minor.

Declan Darcy played all his club football with the Willies as his father was heavily involved with the club despite living in Dublin. I suppose with work pressures etc., he finally made the decision to transfer to St.Brigids.

That’s not what I was told. He definitely played 15s, 16s & minor for Limerick and I was told he played 14s too.

Played for Newport when he was younger alright, but again, fairly sure he was with Kilteely/Dromkeen from 14s up to minor. Didn’t play adult grade for Dromkeen but by the time he was eligible, he had switched.

There’s something very selfish about a father not allowing his child to support and (if he’s good enough) play for the county where the family now lives.

The poor children miss out on forming proper friendships with the children in their school and locality as a result and are always outside the circle.

They don’t have the bond of going to their home county’s games with neighbourhood children as the father is driving them across country to watch his own county instead.

The likes of @Mullach_Ide are at it every few weekends instead of bringing his kids to see Ger Cunningham’s charges.

There’s always something a bit pitiful and weak about some Dub telling you he’s a passionate Clare, Limerick or wherever supporter because his auld lad’s from there. A prime example would be that gimp @Thrawneen who used to post here.

He was with Newport a few years then switched backed last year and never play for their minors or juniors even though he was available.

Young lad who lives, goes to school and plays with Mallow is probably going to want to play with Cork. I’d say there’s a parents hand in this.

The sins of the father and all that malarkey

Nap 10/11 to win the county this year. That’s very very short.

The Dublin minor and under 21 footballers have had a few lads from Kildare and Meath clubs who’s fathrs would have been Dublin I/C footballers playing for them in the last few seasons. Given Dublin’s numbers at underage I always thought it was a bit of bad form

Beefy Heffernan is an out and out legend.

Often remember him during his own intercounty hey day having a smoke sat down by the fence after he had just been taken off in big championship matches.

All the better if he is making his son play for Limerick. That’s good parenting in my book. Hopefully in years to come we’ll be discussing if it’s worth shifting him outfield to play centre back.

I think Beefy played in goal a bit underage. Way way back.

He’s hardly going to make the Cork team playing with Mallow though is he? Whereas in Limerick he is a legend already.

We’ll build him up, then we’ll take him apart piece by piece

We’ll win pulling up.

Why would a Mallow player not make the Cork team if he was good enough?

One of my close pals growing up played with a Northside team because his dad was a former star with them. All his mates played with the local club and I know he would have been much happier with us. He quit straight after minor though he was a really good hurler.
Kids should play club hurling with the lads they’re in primary school with and county for the county they’ve grown up in. Parents can have the best intentions but I think they’re doing the young lads a disservice.
