Iām not saying he hasnt played well cc @slimjim ---- and iām probably being overly critical, but I thought he wasted a lot of ball at times in the Clare game ā more so at the end of normal time when he was probably tiring.
As I said, I think both have something to offer and will be on the panel for years to come but it may not always be as a starter.
Please dont take this as me being overly critical of either player.
Players should be judged on form and plenty players have come from nowhere or improved themselves massively over a short period of time, even when they may have been stone useless before (I donāt mean Dan). No one should be written off.
I cant say I noticed that, I think he has used the ball very well and better than that tried to use the ball well, itās a huge advantage of his over hickey hannon and Byrnes at the moment. Whatās driving me mad with Byrnes is he doesnāt even appear to try to use the ball intelligently at the moment. Hickey tries but doesnāt always succeed and hannon is capable of better. Morrissey is ahead of them but the real test will be whether he can still do itwhen under pressure and when things are sped up in championship.
Agreed re Byrnes ā he just getās a rush of blood after doing all the hard work and instead of picking out a man, he will just drive it wideā¦ tbf, heās a good physical presence and generally does his defensive duties well ---- he just needs to calm the fuck down with the long range shots.
I tell you who I have been extremely impressed with ā Hegarty. Iāve never doubted his will, but his ability was questioned a few timesā¦ a little wayward shooting aside, he has come on leaps and boundsā¦ His size and power are so hard to stop once he gets motoring.
New manager doesnāt have a whole pile of time to get to know the players before club championship starts. Unless itās an internal appointment, maybe Bermingham or someone?
He done a grand job but Iām still mystified as to why Dowling was at midfield and not full forward. Dempsey/O Donghue were always a very good midfield combination.
I would think any new manager wouldnāt be changing much . As you say there is a quick turnaround and they may be vulnerable but I think they will finish in top 4 . If they do that it is very hard see them stopped .
Interestingly for all their wonderful achievements they have yet to retain the county title .
They donāt have backs at the same standard. Have tried d breen and wod in the backs as well.
They were badly caught having to move king to mark oācallaghan.
Last time, they celebrated their All-Ireland victory and there was a 2-month gap between the All-Ireland final and first round of Championship, had two difficult games first and were caught badly on the hop.
This time itās different. Obviously they havenāt won, itās been a ridiculously long season alright but thereās only just over 3 weeks to Championship. Theyāre as sharp as theyāll ever be right now and wonāt have lost it all in 3 weeks. If they get even one win from the first two fixtures, theyāll get through.
As to the whether theyāll have the legs to win it with ten County players going constantly for the next 4 months youād expect, I donāt know. The other sides must fancy their chances, always going to be vulnerable.
It should be easier to qualify with the new structure which should save us.
Good luck to OāNeill. The team will need a small bit of restructuring but not much. Hopefully we can keep Cunningham and Droog at least. Seems the club had notice of this a long time so hopefully they have a candidate in mind already.
You would presume that they do have someone in mind if theyāve known for months. The Leader article said Droog is with Nenagh Eire Og this season. Not saying that heās not doubling up, plenty of S & C guys do.
Cunningham is still involved with Limerick, isnāt he?
Dan Morrissey is not good enough for IC.
From a Tipp POV I hope he doesnt get too cleaned on Saturday night and we eventually finish him off in championship.
Tom Morrissey is a useful wing forward at IC level, personally I think Dempsey is a top class player and is slightly ahead of Morrissey.
