I agree ( back off Byrnes)
I donât agree ( Hit one bad wide) unless you have only reviewed the first 5 mins of the match.

FFS, the clear option is to look for a diagonal across to opposite side in attack, else stick pass 20/30 yards to a teammates hand. This is why one of the FF line, usually Flanagan is roaming out giving a direct target, and leave two inside to run cross-overs.
Booming it wide from our own half is a long way down the playlist.
As is carrying it from half-back. So Seamus does not fit in there either.
I would have agreed with you previously in that our forwards were not giving midfielders and backs options and not making runs. However itâs a different story this year and this was highlighted in a clip on League Sunday from the first half. Great possession win by Byrnes and then boomed it wise while Gillane was in acres of space 30 yards from goal. Nothing against Byrnes at all and I would have in the team every time. Just needs to get improve his shootingđ¤ or use possession wisely.
Anybody can hit a free from that distance wide. Management should put into a plan to work the ball up the field from 100 yards frees. Otherwise donât be hammering brynes for missing them.
From Hoganstand of all placesâŚ
Brud. Were you at the game?? I wouldnât have said his puckouts were excellent until I watched the game back tonight. Out of 46 distributions from Quaid limerick won about 32 of them (70% success - which is excellent against Tipp). Out of the 14 we lost about 6 were off target including the one that led to first goal. So all in all Quaidâs accuracy was close to 87%. Only one short distribution was off target.
More importantly, most of Quaidâs short distributions were won around centre field. This gave us a great attackikg platform. Unfortunately, we were a bit wasteful from there on at times.
If you look at Tipl - Moroney hit 4 bad distributions in normal time. In the same time Tipp lost 16 long distributions. Also his short puckouts were to the 21 yard line. It didnât give Tipp the same quick attacking opportunities as Quaid.
Kyle Hayse was the target for many of the Quaidâs long puckouts. Especially in the last 15 min and extra time. If you look back it was about 50/50 between him and P.Maher - which is some achievement for a 20 year old Vs P Maher, who is one of the finest fielders in the game. The puckout you are referringn to in you post was a poor shot from Quaid earlier in the game. However, claiming they were âawful all nightâ is far from the truth.
Im sure Nicky was devastated after the one that went wrong but or his sake, I hope the players have more since than to be reading this Forum.

I donât mean to be pedantic but Kyle Hayes is 19.
Sign him up!
Quaid put forward a good case for himself there
Ruined it by saying âsinceâ rather than âsenseâ.
Iâd agree with that poster though; Quaid made one almighty fuckup but in general, the puckouts are a million times better than last year.
As for Byrnes- 6 wides for any player is unacceptable. Any sort of ball into the forward line is better than that. There was 2 in particular that I remember that he didnât even look and just blazed it wide. Just needs to calm down a bit. Did brilliantly to win possession a few times.
a case of Hickeyâs Mother syndrome?
He hit a rake of bad wides in the first half alone, dropped one short and langered it out over the sideline over his shoulder without looking when under no pressure as well. He isnât even trying to do the right thing with ball, thatâs the most worrying thing. He caught two balls so itâs not like heâs outstanding in general play either. Our two wing backs are a world apart at the moment, Morrissey always uses the ball well, or at least tries to. Hopefully he sorts it out by next month, he is one of our top players in terms of ability but on current form shouldnât start.
Yes you do
: noway should brynes be dropped for a hitting a few bad wides. Ffs were not in position to go dropping lads due to minor weaknesses in their general play. Brynes is our best half back at the moment. By a distance.
Who is hammering Byrnes?
We are also getting a huge amount of change currently from putting the ball into space behind the full-back line and allowing a foot-race to develop from there. We would be getting more if our full-forward line were more inclined to go for the jugular.
In general, if there has been one criticism of Kiely this year so far it is that we havenât really seen much variation in the half-back line. Hannon, who gave away some pretty cheap ball at times against Tipp but went unpunished for it, will almost certainly be injured at some stage this year. Byrnes has improved from general play as the year has gone on but has been the most wasteful player with the ball. By my count, three options for this line have been cut today.
When Byrnes fires over the winning score against Tipp next month from somewhere out by Ivanâs a few wides in a league game will be long forgotten.
Glas reckons he should be dropped on current form.
He didnât have 6 wides.
Shooting aside his form has been good in the league, bar a tough night on Sutcliffe who is one of the best forwards in the country.
When those efforts go over it lifts our players and fans alike, can be frustrating when he wastes a few in a row though when we now have decent inside forwards who thrive on service.
We are putting the ball outside the full-forward line to the forwards advantage allowing him turn either side on the defender. It is also the easiest ball to take at speed.
Halfback options are thin enough as you say. Hickey would be a real stretch at this stage. I would contend that Hegarty and Hayes are better there than incumbents but that is unlikely to happen. None of the midfield pack are suited to halfback.
Paddy OâLoughlin is the only other with the position. We then reach Lorcan Lyons FFS. Colin Ryan does not seem to be considered for the line.
