Limerick GAA - knocked down, but will get up again

Gillane actually had an incredible first half given the ball he got. He’s weak off his right side and needs to work on that if he’s going to become a marquee forward.

He did. He was superb

He was bottled well in the second half. I thought he was fouled an awful lot before the ball came in. Which is something he’s going to have to get used to as well

Did he win 1 free in the second half? Hard to see on TV put they were fairly hanging off him all second half… Needs to do more to get separation in those circumstances… Like Cadogan… Give his man a good dig in the balls…

The difference in the second half was Kilkenny got their screening spot on. He was usually man marked with Holden in front of him and they turned him onto his right hand side. 4 times in the second half it’s clear hego x 2, Kyle and Byrnes look for Gillane but spot it isn’t on and hit wides from long range shots. Casey is never really going to be available for a long ball. Whatever happened with Flanagan I don’t know but we really missed him on Saturday. He’d relish the physical exchanges and he was always available for a long range ball. It’s a different animal but he coped well being double marked v cork last year. If you create a defense screen and decide to double mark Gillane leaving Flanagan one on one is a risk as he can win high ball and turn in on goal. Peter Casey can be left one v one as he isn’t really a target man. So it’s easier for a defender to mark him. Also our half forward line played so deep until the Dow came on Casey’s tactic of running into the corner and passing back out onto the on rushing half forward line wasn’t on either. The minute we dropped Graeme back we needed two ball winners inside.

the ball in changed in the second half as well.

For the 20 or so minutes he did wreck, Hannon was struggling and Hayes had dropped back, the ball was hit in quick over the KK half back line and the backs had no time to hang off him.

Second half went back to playing through the lines, he was making runs but the ball wasn’t as quick in. The backs had all day to pick him up as he was on his own.

it was actually very similar to the Cork semi final last year where we were 5/6 points down late on. We didn’t start making hay that day until the half forward line pushed up and we forced them man to man in the backs and Nash had to go long. We cleaned up.

The Dow is a great guy.

I hope he freshen up the back room team a little. I get the feeling Cody changes up his backroom team regularly as well. Bill bellicheck and sir Alex as well often brought in a new coach or assistant. A new coach can be worth four or five new players.

He should look into getting Sheedy on board as a selector, seems to be a good motivator.

I’d be hoping for a few things next year from limerick gaa. 1)adare manor is removed from our Jersey 2) a media black out. 3) somebody prominent that calls the county board out on their incompetence 4) jp McManus told to fuck off or else fund both hurling and football in the county equally.

Asking for trouble with a media blackout, never ends well.

It ends with all ireland medals. The media need stories. So give them none. Do your talking on the field.

Every county talks to the media…its what you say is the important thing.

Didn’t hear anything said out of the ordinary this year, people going on about something by Flanagan said in January. Made no difference to the year.

Kiely or Hannon give nothing away in interviews. Bit boring if anything.

you have to talk to them to control them. If you leave them off to their own devices they’ll lose the run of themselves

Kiely and hannon are obliged to say a few words but say nothing which is wonderful. The Dublin footballers are afraid of their lives to say a single word. Going for 5 in a row. Anytime doing interviews can’t be better spent from a player point of view.

What utter nonsense.
