Limerick GAA - We get knocked down šŸ

He played Breen, Hannon and Dodge there the last day I suppose, al aroundl 6ft + and they couldnā€™t catch a ball so no harm in trying out a few midgets.

He might see would Clarkey tog and call back Clem Smith too, could repeat the same tactic at half back.

1.Quaid
2.Byrnes
3. (If fit) McCarthy
4. Condon
5. Gavin
6. Wayne Mc

Why is Oā€™Mahony always ā€œGavinā€ and not ā€œOā€™Mahonyā€ when Limerick members are posting teams when surnames are overwhelmingly used otherwise?

Why is Richie Richie instead of McCarthy? Why is Ryan Jim Bob? Why anything? Donā€™t try to apply logic to Limerick hurling. Itā€™s a Limerick thing.

To answer your question, itā€™s to save typing in the apostrophe, which Limerick people struggle with and are traditionally wary of.

We do our own thingā€¦Jim-Bob will always be Jim-Bob and Browne, Browneā€¦ Most of the time itā€™s Wayne Mc not that he needs to be distinguished from any other McNamara, but it will always be P Oā€™Brien and K Oā€™Brien and not Paudie etc. etc.

Hope that clears it up mateā€” thereā€™s no rationale really, just that certain people in Limerick will always be called by their surname, like myself, while others will only ever be referred to by their first nameā€¦

I see our footballers lost again after a gallant performance. Iā€™ll make one thing clear football is not my sport Iā€™ve no interest in it at all but sometimes the Limerick football fans and particularly the media in Limerick really annoy me.

After their annual ā€œgallant performanceā€ against a side way better than them that played in first gear we hear comparisons to the hurlers particularly from Liam Aherne. Who seems to annually question the hurlers fitness and dedication compared to the footballers after any loss or poor performance. Iā€™ve no doubt some members of the football panel are incredibly dedicated but I know for a fact a lot arenā€™t. Indeed I know a true story about a lad who was in a well known night club in Limerick the night before the Tipp football league game going hard on the double vodkas. The following day he was played a part in their defeat. Now Iā€™m fairly sure if I heard it surely members of the media and of the panel did but yet this player was a part of the panel on Sunday. If something like this was to happen in the hurling camp weā€™d have weeks of coverage

When the footballers lose heavily to teams everyone is quick to defend the footballers and point out how it is the county boards fault for not supporting football like they do hurling but how many clubs take football seriously Limerick? Fifteen/twenty percent maybe? The county board is a representation of the clubs of Limerick so why would they support the two games equally.

Fuck Limerick.

At matches youā€™d always roar Gavin as opposed to O Mahony.

I bet @Bandage feels like a right fucking dope now.

Football is a pile of wank, @anon25556527. Just when it was fading into oblivion in Wexford, the fuckers go and take a scalp in the qualifiers. Now we wonā€™t be able to pump all the money into hurling. Limerick seem to pay it the lip service it deserves.

My ā€œPush football back out over the West borderā€ has not taken off as of yet.

Hard to know what kind of a team TJ will select the weekend. Not much that heā€™s going to learn about new players so does he select the team he hopes to pick for the next round and see how it goes or try a few players and see how they integrate? I could see him starting Tobin who was in great form in the end of the league and unlucky not to start v Clare and then unlucky since. Does he take a punt on Byrnes or Lynch or even Quaid at half back?

Probably Quaid will be restored to goals to get match practice.

The full back line heā€™ll have to decide to stick or twist. Walsh is everyoneā€™s candidate to lose out but hasnā€™t done much wrong. Richie may have been hampered by injury and wasnā€™t helped by what was going on out the field the last day but is he fit enough. I think we have to hope those issues have been addressed and start with him. Hickey has not been near his level of last year but again Iā€™m not sure can we afford to move him. Our only full back line cover appears to be our two wing backs, or King at a push.

Half back Gavin surely stays at 6. Seanie has been a good addition and will keep his starting place, though he could be pushed forward to mid or even half forward or back into the corner. Condon probably wonā€™t be moved but heā€™s most under pressure IMO. Iā€™d want to see Wayne Mc start. Iā€™d also strongly consider Byrnes or Ronan Lynch, maybe as second half subs.

Mids: Browne needs to be restored full stop. Paudie loses out IMO, not sufficient workrate. Jimbob is clinging on on the basis of past performance after the quietest outing Iā€™ve seen from him last day, Seanie Oā€™Brien could start for him here.

Half forward: major surgery needed. Iā€™d want to start Downes at 11. Iā€™d shift Hannon to wing, whether heā€™s there or left at 11 he needs to work his socks off and dominate his man the way we know he can, he should be getting puckouts landed on him and should win them too. Lynch moved out would be good to see and would accommodate Tobin starting inside who deserves a chance. I donā€™t agree Dowling should be moved to half forward, he is a natural full forward and was our best player there against Tipp. Breen could start too to give him some game time, it was probably unfair to expect him to perform the last day out after only being back fit two weeks. Reidy should be given some time.

Full forward is Dowling. Lynch in one corner and Mulcahy in the other most likely. Iā€™d like to see Tobin start. Mulcahy has been starting ahead of Tobin as of right. Not entirely sure itā€™s justified and Tobin deserves a game, iā€™d start Tobin ahead of Mulcahy and that should motivate both, might be reversed then the next day out. John Fitz could start too, or at midfield but him and Browne together would probably be the smallest midfield ever seen.

@glasagusban - What do you mean Gavin surely stays at 6? He has been far from convincing - he mopped up a bit of loose ball the last day but his job is to hold the line and he didnā€™t do itā€¦Wayne Mac offers McCarty more protection tho he is more limited than Gavin when it comes to distributionā€¦ iā€™d rather the former at the minute being honest at the rate we are conceding goalsā€¦Gavin just doesnā€™t have the physicality for 6ā€¦ Seanie Oā€™Brien has added a bit ball carrying out of defence but what did his man score the last day??? 1-3ā€¦ experiment over. When we are going well I agree that Dowling needs to be in at full but over the next two games we need him on the ball as much as possible, heā€™s bar far our best player and he is not influencing games in at 14 presently. Hannon can sit on the sidelines and decide whether he wants to be involved or not. Breen needs game time as does Tobin and iā€™d only leave Mul on in the hope he bangs a few in and it gets him goingā€¦ Downes, likewise.

Bloomfield house is a fine spot alright CMā€¦ The Mullingar park is ok tooā€¦ If you push the boat out, the wineport Lodge in Glasson will definitely score some brownie points

In a strange morbid way I nearly enjoy the football matches more than the hurling. We (the footballers) have no fans and there is practically no under age structure or investment. We are underdogs 90% of the time we play. Most people in the county donā€™t give a damn about them. Zero glamour or prestige associated with the footballers and an even slimmer chance of success. Absolutely everything stacked against them but when they give their all what few supporters we do actually have are happy to support them.

What bugs me is that when we played Wexford in the league in the double header the hurlers got put up in a hotel the night before while the footballers had to make do with a 4 hour bus journey down that morning. It should be the same for both. Overnight stay for both or neither.

Donā€™t want to turn it into a hurling v football debate but little things like that create a siege mentality for those who follow the football.

Anybody that thinks Teege is going to make a whole pile of changes hasnā€™t a clue. 2 personnel and maybe two positional. Wayne Mcs back is apparently fucked is the reason as to why he is not involved.

Bollox. We could do with him. Paudie and Dodge to be dropped for Browne and Downes is a must.

If Wayne is so fucked how is he good enough to come in for a few mins?
