Itās as I suspected - heās hoping that things are going to clickā¦ itās pointless bringing in new players at this stage of the season but he has to make positional changes and lay down a game plan!
On Gavin done alright there but needs more cover. Heās our best defender to use the ball well and it makes sense to deploy him here but youāre right heās not a stopper and that should be recognised and cover put in place. Heād be perfect playing the same role OāGrady played in 2012 but we require major elevation in workrate from forwards to allow that. The only alternative is Wayne who hasnāt even been able to start a game so I think weāre stuck with Gavin. If we had another 6 and some options at half back Gavin at 11 could do the same for us as Brendan Maher does for Tipp, dropping deep, tackling, picking up ball, delivering ball, and taking scores. Shortage of resources.
Seanie was good going forward and tried hard throughout. One of the few to emerge with any credit IMO. In a choice between him and Condon Iād keep Seanie.
You hit on a few good points. Limerick canāt really play with a man back as it does not suit our forwards. 1) Very few ball winners
2) It will make Dowling look really silly again.
Youāve nothing to lose by dropping Hannon for the next game - Give Downes a chance to get confidence back and we will see how Hannon responds- Iād like to do the same at the back but we are so short on alternatives you canāt, but it would be no harm to let Hickey sit it out either and maybe let OāBrien where he is, bring Wayne in and drop Condon back to the cornerā¦we should be beating W.Meath with our second string, TJ needs to use this game to send a message to certain players - itās his neck on the line. You can be sure other managers would do it.
Iād be very surprised if Teege is going to do anything radical.

Iād be shocked if those 12 donāt start our next game or at least the game against the next good team we play.
Teege logic:
Most people believed after the Kilkenny game last year lack of goals was a problem for this side. Teege has a decent set of forwards at his disposal particularly after the introduction of Cian Lynch.
He moved Paudie O Brien to midfield to improve distribution and brought in Seanie O Brien who is very good at moving off his ball and giving under pressure backs an option. S O Brien and O Mahony seem like the ideal half backs either side of Wayne. His love for timber and their movement would mean Wayne would options to distribute the ball to as opposed to ballooning it up the field to nobody. Waynes loss of form is a massive blow. At this time we have no other options in the backs bar Dan Morrissey and Paudie O Brien. Dodge at a stretch. Condon is a woeful wing back and a decent corner back so you would imagine it was S Walsh who gained from Waynes loss of form. A conservative Teege will not throw a half back line of S. O Brien, GOM and Dan into championship action. So if Wayne does not recover which I am led to believe is unlikely it is very likely we will have the same backs as we did the first two days out.
At midfield Paul Browne seemed to lose out to Paudie but will surely be brought back in alongside Jim Bob. John Fitz wonāt be starting and after that with Tom Ryan MIA we have no other viable options.
Hannon is much criticised but still our best option. If he gets the ball into the hand he invariably scores. If you had two good work horses either side of him he could be dynamite. Hannon will work hard - v Clare he completely shut down Conor Ryan and against Tipp it seemed a tactic for him to step of Paudie Maher for whatever reason. Iād hazard a guess at saying David Reidy might just get the start versus West Meath unless Ronan Lynch comes in. Dodgeys days at this level are over.
Cian Lynch, Graeme Mul and Dowling will the full forward line with Kevin Downes covering.
Re Downes: He is simply terrible at catching a ball. Iād say he might catch 1 for every 50 balls hit down on him but when he does he can cause havoc. Iām sure Teege thinks he too poor at ball winning to play him anywhere bar the full forward line. If he does happen to catch one at least he will be close to the goals. Puck outs need to be won these days and he wonāt do that.
Iām sure somebody will say drop Hannon and start him centre forward but in reality he isnāt even good at moving off his man for loose ball like Hannon. All his good moments in a green shirt have come from catching his own ball but he does that so rarely.
I agree generally. But with Hickey I just think he needs more hurling rather than a kick up the arse, so leave him. Hannon, the same but with instruction he has to up the workrate. Might be no harm for him to be subbed. Of course this may be an unfair view from us as for all we know he may have carried out whatever instructions he was given to a T. Downes should be given 70 mins. Taking him off v Wexford last year was a mistake which appeared to crush his confidence IMO.
I say throw Downes in FF. Dowling will be as effective on the 40. Walsh and Hickey have to taken out of the FB line. Bench Walsh and put hickey in wing back. Drop Condon back as a direct sub for Walsh. I personally think we are struggling for another quality corner back
