Id love both lads to fulfill the early promise. But when you look at it Downes he hasnāt performed in 3 years which is the last time he was started in at fullforward.
Hannon has performed decently all the way through baring the semi in 2013 against the tin whistlers. Redeemed himself massively against KK last yr with 5 points from play.
Saying that everyone connected with Limerick hurling would have expected more but maybe schools hurling flattered both of them at the time. Most people thought we had an exceptionally talented forwards coming through rather then very good hurlers
Lads in fairness are we moving deckchairs in the titanic at the moment?
From what Iāve seen so far this year we are nowhere near where we should be, neither from a fitnesd nor a hurling perspective. All things been equal on the face of it, we will make a tame exit Saturday week. Kills me to say it but I will be surprised if we go any further.
Both have been interrupted by injury a lot, Downes has had to have a few surgeries already.
2011, great year. 2012, was he injured, I forget, I think so. 2013, john allenās system meant he was held in reserve, gave a good account of him whenever he came in. 2014 he set the world on fire for club, was outstanding in the league, deployed at corner forward mostly he had some good moments, but starved of ball his form went on a downward curve after the Tipp game. Heās only just back from surgery again now, needs loads of hurling IMO and needs some confidence shown in him. I think Downes will still hit the heights expected of him.
Itās a historical thing pal. But if we are to win this All Ireland we need to find savage forwards. Bubbles Callinan and Forde the last day are the benchmark and until we get lads like this into the team weāll struggle. The 21st was a massive blow and reality check for me and Im only a fan.
The wrists those lads have and their goal prowess is on another level to us as much as it pains me to say it.
