Why are the Limerick GAA County Leagues treated with such disdain? 5 team groups in the hurling leagues. A disgracefully small uneven number that means that one club has a bye in every round. 8 teams in the football is also too little and every year the format changes. There doesnt seem to be relegation or promotion. There also should be no League finals. The Kerry County League format should be copied. There are 12 teams per group in Kerry and the rounds are played every second week from the second week in March. The team with the most points and best scoring difference is the League Champion and 3 get promoted from each division and 3 get relegated. This cuts out semi finals and finals which only adds to fixture confusion. Why canât we have a similar system in Limerick? Club players want plenty of matches and they want to have a good idea from the start of the year when they are on. There is nothing worse for a club player than to be waiting around all year training for the odd match. The main problem in Limerick of course is the 4 Divisions with their unevenly numbered divisional Leagues and championships that cause fixture chaos and uneven contests. The matches should be on a Saturday evening. Having them on a Tuesday is no way to promote the game with a lot of club players in college or working far away. The championships should be proper straight knockout championships just like the Dublin Championships. This would cut out the long drawn out championships that we presently have where half the teams are there to only make up the numbers.
Can we get a âwatch your grammar pleaseâ rating Bandage? Iâm raging about this ladâs misuse of âgoodâ.
That post has all the hallmarks of a Hoganstand effort.
Then a dickhead I must be, but coming from you Iâll take that as a compliment. Unfortunately because of Kip Killigans style of management and the way he treated lads last year I will question every single thing the cunt does. If you donât like it then fuck off with yourself. This isnât Cahills site where to have an opinion is verboten.
Do you play yourself? I doubt it.
The football championships in Limerick are brilliant. Players are guaranteed 5 serious games at a minimum, there isnât many other counties where players have that.
Also the senior football master fixture list has been stuck to rigidly for the past 4/5 seasons, only on the very odd occasion have matches had to be moved, so plyers do know from the start of the year when matches are going to be on.
The Kerry system works in Kerry because football is the primary sport by a long way. It simply wouldnât work in Limerick where other sports have more prominence.
So basically what you are saying is that Quaid, Carmody and Fitz had no influence on these players? Now the rewriting of GAA history in Limerick might be what you cunts on the Ennis Rd want to happen but it doesnât make it right or correct. Kip was handed a team that had been moulded for success by someone else and because Kip is the chosen one from the Liberties clique it looks like he will be the one to lead them to a minor title, hopefully. He will then take over from the Politically Motivated Understudy and all PJâs money will have bought him control of Limerick GAA. Well, Limerick hurling GAA because he doesnât give a fuck about anything else.

I think 12 team leagues would work perfectly in Limerick. If you started in the middle of March and had hurling and football every second week, this would take you up to the middle of August. All County Leagues of 12 all the way down to Junior F if needed is the way forward. Some people think the League Championships that we have now are good idea but in my opinion I think they drag on too long especially for clubs that know that they donât have achance of winning it.I was always a fan of the straight knockout championship. 16 teams per competition into the hat. Win four games and you win the county.
And lose one and your summer is over.
It is not over. The team can concentrate on the league. Dublin have a straight knockout championship now and its going to happen in more counties because the GAA are proposing to finish all club activity in the Calendar year. This means that all county finals will have to be over by September.
The league is nothing more that prep for championship. No one ultimately cares about the league.
Runt is spot on, teams need a guarantee of 3-4 championship games every year to justify the effort and expense put into the campaign and keep players happy. Ultimately a round of 3 or so group games and then quarters/semi/final. 20 (or 16) teams, four groups of five, everyone plays everyone, top two in each group go into quarters with top team having home advantage, bottom team in each group goes into relegation semis. Simple as fuck, and very fair.
As an aside, having a backdoor for Minors - and having quarters for that matter - is taking the piss. These lads are doing the leaving, nevermind playing with their school/club.
Iâve never been involved in a last round game in the football championship where there was nothing at stake. The fact 3 teams out of 6 qualify the knock out stages, and the bottom team goes into the relegation means that there is always something to play for in the last round of games. Itâs actually pretty well structured in that you have your first two games played by early June and then you know you are free until August. It gives players plenty of flexibility in terms of holidays etc. You are also putting clubs with county players at a serious disadvantage if they are forced to play league games (which have a bearing on championship) without them.
Of all the things wrong with Limerick GAA, the football championship certainly isnât one of them.
Antrim at home in the football qualifiers next Saturday, could have been worse.
Jaysus you havnât a notion!! Ask any club footballer in the county and not one would complain about the structure of the championship!! Iâm led to believe that the hurling clubs are also very happy that the hurling has been changed to the same structure!
The Citizen has pissed in the wrong pot here.
Could be worse, he could have pulled a Todd Carney.
He has been mugged off with facts and reasoned argument. A TFK first.
Iâm not sure I like the turn this forum is taking
