Charleville is a grand town, not sure what more youād want really? Where are you comparing it to?
I meant the one coming from Bruree. Iāve never gone further west than Rourkeās Cross in my life
The Sports Direct signal didnāt take long.
I drove through Mallow the other day. Thereās something apocalyptic about the gaa field in centre of town that just has entrance still in tact .
I think there used be something similar on the main road near Buttevant. An entrance to an old estate house or something, just standing there is isolation.
Iām familiar with your aversion to the beautiful western half of your county
You need to continue west along the Bruff Lineā¦ā¦take a gallop up Knockfierna, do the Greenway, Wesht is best!
Thereās something very bleak about Charleville. Maybe itās the lack of greenery/trees on the main street, or some of the āshamsā you see about the town. It has that ātwilight zoneā feel about it, like so many other towns that rest on county boundaries. Abbeyfeale, Tipp Town and Arklow all have that same feel about them.
Id be no fan of charleville but itās a thriving town. Itās also like Paris or Barcelona compared to Kilmallock ffs
Bleak as you enter from the Limerick side, but the stretch from the turnoff to the schools all the way to the GAA pitch is thriving, itās a grand town

That was predictable, whoād have thought that posters who regularly spend time in or pass through a particular town might have an opinion, thereās plenty of shitty towns in Cork as well
Thereās some intriguing looking pubs in buttevant. Town has a grim auld feel though. I imagine it would thrive if bypassed. Itās not somewhere anyone ever stops anyway.
Charleville would probably lose a lot of business if bypassed
Youād love OāNeills in Buttevant,
But thereās little else there
Pretty sure thatās where I stopped to watch a munster football final a few years back. At half time the owner brought out trays of sandwiches and chocolate bars for the children. Seemed a great spot.
Not a fan of Buttevant either, always seems like mayhem around there when Cahermee Horse Fair comes around. I wouldnāt be gone on Mallow either, which for a town of its size, should be much busier.
Kanturk, Mitchelstown and Fermoy are the three decent towns in north Cork.
Kilmallock isnāt a quiet town, but Charleville is busier because itās on a main road. Iād argue Kilmallock has better pubs. It also has that lovely medieval gate and a very nice Dominican Abbey by the river. The mart brings a good crowd, and Fitzgerald Park hosts a lot of club and inter county games. Charleville doesnāt have that same level of cultural importance.
Kilmallock hardly has any pubs left!
Quality over quantity.
and in the abscence of either?
