Doesn’t matter, the winning margin on the pitch was way more than the scoreboard says. Bring back Lynch and that could’ve been a hammering today. As it turns out the wrong team started for KK but that’s a gamble and a call you’ve to make as manager. I don’t buy the “drive on from here” with this current crop
Kilkenny died with their boots on and left nothing in the field but simply carried too many passengers on the day. Limerick were full merit for the victory and should have won a bit more comfortably on the balance of play. Their economy in the first half aside from a couple of poor wides from Mulcahy and a couple more just before the break was excellent.
Hegarty did huge damage, the goal was an outstanding finish but by Christ did Paddy Deegan let him have it all his own way. He was walking onto balls while Deegan looked lost. Was a huge bearing in the match, kilkenny’s half backs all tried hard but were completely out hurled on the day while Limerick’s half backline were very solid. Thought TJ put in some shift for Kilkenny but needed more from those around him.
Agreed but let’s not forget the impact of Lynch alone has on this team. Him back firing and hungry again next season could make a huge improvement again.
Gearoid Hegarty, the ultimate winner. Crosses the line but by God he is some value for it. An all timer. Would drag you kicking and screaming through hell. If he did nothing else all year he still deserves hurler of the year for today. I’d have over anyone of the last decade not named Joe Canning and that may change soon yet.
Not sure there’s room for Mul next year. With Cathal Oniell showing he’s well able for the big stage, Boylan showing he’s ready to step up, casey coming back plus lynch best played in half forward line, Mul may struggle to find a footing and be content to depart with his haul than another long winter of preseason to fight for a bench spot
The last score on 70 mins when he shrugged off a full frontal Kilkenny tackle in his half back line, took a moment and buried it from 100 yards was iconic.
Ah lads the look between Hannon and Lynch before they lifted the cup together. Magic. I’d say there will be grown men in tears watching it back on the TV.
Bolloxed after that, had to have a cat nap when I got home.
Not sure how we managed to keep the scoreline down to 4 at half-time but we kept on plugging away and even upped the ante in 2nd half to make it a very enjoyable game. There were points throughout the game when I thought it was slipping away but we had a chance right up until the final whistle which, truth be told was probably as good as we could hope for, such is the quality of this Limerick team.
Hegarty was unbelievable, KK took way too long to do anything about him but he was still unreal. The Limerick half back line was also fantastic. It felt like every loose ball seemed to just pop into a Limerick half backs hand, especially in the last 10 minutes but we all know that’s not luck.
Congratulations to all the Limericks on board, all those years of unlimited heartbreak are well behind ye now. Enjoy the celebrations
