Limerick v Kilkenny - All Ireland Final 2022 - The Hego final

Minus Lynch and Casey. We’ve blooded a few like CON and Boylan. Young English to come in yet. We’ll be in the running next year but no doubt wear and tear will affect a few more next year.

I’d say he will. Thought he would go last year actually. He isn’t a starter any more.

Taking the championship in its entirety then surely Diarmuid Byrnes is the front runner for HOTY

Same place same time, next year?

Would love it if he got it. The quintessential Limerick hurler. Hannon might nick it after today though.

Hegarty was phenomenal but agreed on Deegan. I thought the Limerick midfield pairing were much better today than their last two games, put in a lot of tackles, won breaks etc. I reckoned the move should have been Deegan to midfield to try to give Kilkenny a better footing there while sticking someone else, anyone else, on Hegarty. I think Tommy Walsh went out on him briefly, got beaten for a point and won another ball and then Blanchfield late on, won the ball and pointed (when he probably should have tried to work a goal opening). Hannon was exceptional, Byrnes’ pinpont frees were crucial and I thought Kyle Hayes had a massive game and Tom Morrissey was much improved too. Kilkenny just didn’t have enough upfront to complement TJ. I agree with the comments that Limerick on the balance of play should have won by 2/3 more but Kilkenny’s battling qualities were outstanding. I think Hegarty is nailed on HOTY now when you consider that final display and the goal, and the Munster Final goal. Limerick responded like champions each time Kilkenny levelled in the second half and that was a win/performance to cement their legacy. Congratulations to my Limerick INTERNET friends.

Hegarty ran riot all day and was the real difference. Thought it was worth a shot bringing Mikey Butler out the field to have a try on him.

We went out and won the second half I suppose.

The entire Limerick team and management should get HOTY

Congratulations to all the many Limericks on here. Today will put them down as a generationally outstanding side. Fully deserved winners after being questioned a few times this year.

Hannon was outstanding, but Byrne’s was the winning of this game for me. He was just so dominant. Hegarty produced when it was most needed and was unplayable at times. Fintan Burke’s stock has risen after today. This all done with the finest hurler in the land in a moon boot in the stand.

The rest of us can look on to 2023 and know who the standard bearers are and try and figure out how beat these in a tight one going down the stretch. This team just knows how. At the moment they have no equal.

Outstanding. Enjoy the pints. These are iconic days for ye.

While it was a terrific game you’d really prefer a few less scores. That’s the third time in a row Limerick have hit 30 points or over in a final and the first time the opposition have hit over 20. It’s all becoming very scientific and while you can’t criticise coaching teams for that it would be great to have few more blood and guts passages of play that go on for two minutes or over.

Ciaran Carey wasn’t too far wide of the mark with his 5 in a row prediction back in 2019. 4 in 5 is some going. Limerick could be going for immortality in a couple of years time if they get to a 5 in a row. The gap appears to be closing though, albeit Cian Lynch will be a serious addition for them next year.

It is, but with Lynch they’re probably 5-6 points better than the nearest opponent.

Similar team to what what played us in 2018, so age profile could be a factor in a couple of years time.

Good evening all
