Liverpool 09/10

What was his excuse for going on the rob, Thrawneen?

He plays for Pompey Bando, he needs a thrill as his job satisfaction is probably lower than ours.

Mascherano in talks with Barca according to the Guardian today.

Does he have the passing game to play in that Barca midfield? I know he’s an effective midfielder in hassling guys off the ball but he wouldn’t strike me as being as comfortable on the ball as Yaya Tour for example.

He would be a very odd signing for Barcelona in my opinion.

Liverpool have announced they will play Dunmanway Town of West Cork in a preseason friendly on August the 6th…Wonder will Dunmanway charge €60 a ticket for it…

He improved a good bit in that regard last season I thought.

They were saying 20 a ticket on Newstalk this morning. Limited to 3000 tickets

How did they swing that? Limerick FC could even convince Sunderland to play them FFS. Obviously it’s going to be some 4th string Liverpool side but still.

I think some fella just chanced his arm and wrote to them.

Ah that would explain it. I don’t think Limerick FC could have done something as clever as that.

Good to see a real club stay true to it’s fans and charge a reasonable price for a friendly against one of the biggest clubs in the world.

Kop this Pool to take on West Corks best

IT pays to think big just ask members of a small, rural soccer club who have landed a match against Liverpool.

Dunmanway Town XI player David Hall simply called Anfield six weeks ago and asked would the men in red like to travel to west Cork for a game.

“I had my reservations when he did it. We have no association with the club and I honestly thought theyd ignore us,” club manager John Buckley said.

“Now were just over the moon.”

Liverpool wont be sending Steven Gerrard or Fernando Torres but have promised to field a squad which could include Dutch internationals Dirk Kuyt and Ryan Babel as well as French under-21 David Ngog and Daniel Agger.

The David v Goliath clash will take place at 2pm on August 6, but not on the Dunmanway clubs pitch. “We simply wouldnt have the space. Were hoping to attract up to 3,000 fans, so we will be staging the match at Maria Immaculata Community College, in Dunmanway,” Mr Buckley said.

Liverpool club secretary, Ian Silvester, confirmed yesterday they had accepted the invitation and will fly into Cork the night before the game.

“In its decision to hold this game Liverpool FC, who are aware of their enormous fan base in the region, are bringing a taste of the Premier League to all their fans in west Cork,” Mr Buckley said.

The club were runners up in the West Cork Premier League last season. But they wont be able to match Liverpools firepower.

“We are hoping to draft in a couple of League of Ireland players so we can make a game of it. Liverpool are aware of our intention and have no problem with it,” Mr Buckley said.

Tickets will cost 20 for adults and 10 for children and senior citizens.

The club, which has around 300 members, will use the money raised to further develop its pitches and purchase new equipment.

Its unlikely that any fans will travel over from the Kop but then Liverpool neednt worry as there are thousands of their supporters in Cork who will no doubt be clamouring for tickets.

Fabio Aurelio faces up to six months on the sidelines after suffered a twisted knee while playing football with his children, the gob shite… Looks like the left back spot is Insua’s to make his own.

He’s a crock that lad.

Instead of splashing out 18 odd million on Johnson I think it would make more sense on spending 9m each on a left back and a right back.

Christ - that fee for Johnson looks bloody huge now.

Chuffed to have Johnson and Insua at fullback tbh.

Johnson was not deemed good enough by Chelsea about two years ago remember.

Granted I haven’t seen much of him since but I doubt that he could have improved over three times since then.

Up to him to get the best out of Johnson now. If it settles the full-back spot he’ll be vindicated, if it doesn’t he’ll look like an awful flute.

Improved over three times since? What you talking bout Willis? I liked him in the handful of games I saw him at West Ham. He was never given a chance to develop at Chelsea and was probably too attacking for Mourinho’s liking. Of course, there is a lot of improvement to be made at the age of 22 and Portsmouth gave him the opportunity. I know you’re not an Arbeloa fan but I assume you think he’s an improvement on him?

farmer was it not just 8 mill cash from the pool for Johnson and the rest was money owed by Portsmouth for Crouch deal?..so if Liverpool hadn’t got the Crouch money by now you could argue that they probably would have had to fight tooth and nail to get it as portsmouth seem to be seriously in the red…might have been good business by liverpool in the long run if it was money thay were never going to see…

Again I have not seen a huge amount of him at Portsmouth but I didn’t rate him at Chelsea. I thought he was defensively terribly shaky. I also think it is a convenient argument to say that Mourinho got rid of him because he was too attacking. At the time I thought he got rid of him because he was shit.

He may have improved a lot since then but it is an incredible amount of money.

I would have him above Arbeloa but that doesn’t say much.

I take your point but Crouch left for 11 million though scummer which means the maximum in addition was 7 million which is loads for Johnson.

I would say some of that was paid off - around half which would mean that Johnson is worth about 12.5m!

That’s of course if you go with that logic - i.e. that approximately 6m from Crouch was saved by doing this deal
