Mario had done the business in the first game against England scoring the winner. That would have been enough for Italian teams of old to advance. After that, it was up to Buffon and the defence to ensure they got the two draws (actually one draw would have done) to advance. Thatâs where the blame for Italyâs humiliating exit lies. Not with Mario.
The great strikers come to life at the business end of tournaments. Look at the 1982 World Cup, Paolo Rossi didnât score until Italyâs 5th game, when he got a hat-trick against Brazil. Predators like Mario grow into a tournament as it advances. Just look at the European Championship in 2012. Mario ticked along for the first few games, before following the Paolo Rossi template and exploding into life in the 5th game of the tournament in the semi final against Germany.
Nobody yet knows how long heâll be out for. Could be weeks or months. The Evening Standard said four months and then edited it out of their piece. Sturridgeâs tweet doesnât sound good but how serious can a thigh injury be?
Unless heâs made somehow complete shit of his thigh surely it should be weeks rather than months?
Even without him, we should be winning every league match from now until the end of October at least.

He will be out for 6 months at least. Might as well just start building for next yearâŚ
Senderos is booting Balotelli every chance he gets. I reckon the italian will lash out at around the 60 minute mark and walk as a result.
The liverpool defence has been comical as usual.
