I’m still aghast at this. The kids of today are delusional, he should be graced to be in the same arena as Suarez. This story reminds me of the one I regaled on this board a couple of months ago about some little shit ringing the bell on their bicycle which was kitted out with stabilisers and asking me to disembark from the footpath for them.
Not a bad window. Business done before the last day thankfully- Sturridge and Coutinho in for 20m - Cole and Doni out - Both on big money for doing nothing- Sahin loan cancelled and some of the fee reimbursed. Gradually the age and wage bill are being reduced, and the club are playing hardball when it comes to fees at last and have signed some great commercial deals.
Summer window has to address the defence- LB,CB,GK all needed.
4th is out of reach for reasons I already outlined but to stay in contention and finish the season off in a high is paramount. Brendan and the younger players will have learned a lot this year and with a host of more young lads being promoted to senior squad next year there is a decent attack minded squad being built. The key to going forward however is experience, from both a playing and managerial perspective. As the king (Luis) said, youth can win you games, but it’s experience that will win you championships - Therefore FSG need to be flexible with their model and bring in some proven quality to oversee the transition of this young team. Brendan also needs to learn quick from his mistakes, of which he has made a few this year- namely his sloth like reactions from the line in certain games and his reluctance to address the defensive calamities that have been evident since day one against West Brom. However, for all the talk of him wanting certain players to only play football a certain way, I think he has shown lately this is shite, and that he is willing to adapt and is learning- It’s not just about tippy tappy keep possession football, you can see the players are now playing more direct balls, particularly with Sturridge in the team, ball retention is chief yes, but it’s about the right ball at the right time. That reads like common sense, but it’s not something the club have employed in the last few seasons.
I’ll hold off on judgement until the season ends, but so far for every step forward there has been one back which leaves more than enough rope for Rodgers to hang himself- or be lynched- but he will be here for the next 2 seasons at least so lets hope all parties are learning fast. Overall there are lots of positives to be taken, but too many nagging doubts…
Liverpool star Raheem Sterling has been charged with assaulting a woman.
The 18-year-old Reds and England winger was summonsed to Liverpool Youth Court today on a charge of common assault.
The Jamaica-born footballer, who lives in Woolton, Liverpool, did not attend the hearing and solicitor Mick Hogan appeared on his behalf.
Police said a 27-year-old woman, who is known to the footballer, suffered “slight” facial injuries during an alleged incident in Toxteth, Liverpool, on 2 November.
During today’s short hearing Mr Hogan told the court that Sterling denies the allegation.
He said the alleged offence took place when the footballer was 17 but, as he turned 18 in December, the matter should be transferred to the adult courts.
Mr Hogan said: "I do have instructions to the effect that Mr Sterling will be pleading not guilty to this charge.
“He is aware of today’s hearing and the club are very supportive.”
The move to the adult courts was supported by the prosecution and Chairman of the Bench Brian Upton adjourned the matter to Liverpool Magistrates’ Court on 22 February.
Sterling made his senior international debut for England last November against Sweden and has earned plaudits for his performances for Liverpool this season.
I thought that was delt with, or dismissed a while back?? Another fella who needs to zip it up.
liverpool would be utterly hopeless without suarez. joe allen seems another big money british flop. Are there many other positives this season?
Yes.
Plenty of positives. Most notably the rise in form of our midfielders, Henderson and Downing, the return to form (when fit) of our left back Enrique, the linking up of Suarez and Sturridge looks good and the introduction of some good younger players.
Funny how Downing started playing well when he was told he could leave during the January window. Nothing like a kick in the hole to get a player motivated.
The positives for Liverpool seem to be that they have bought reasonably well, Sturridge, Coutinho and Borini will be a big improvement on the likes of Carroll, Adam, Maxi, Bellamy etc. Allen has struggled so far but I think he may become a good player down the line. Liverpool fans should just be counting down the days until Rodgers leaves the job, the guy is retarded tactically and seems to be obsessed with playing players out of position and reinventing the wheel. He’d probably wants to get some massive ego boost about transforming a player. The guy is an utter simpleton.
Liverpool currently have 4 English captains at the club.
U16: Jordan Rossiter. U19: Wisdom. U21: Henderson. England: Gerrard.
Borini has made the same impact as Downing last season ie none. The improvements in the former Villa man and Henderson are only in recent weeks and relative to the absolute dirge they were performing previously. Reina, Johnson and Agger seem to lack interest. Skrtle is only average really. Enrique is a solid defender but hardly sufficiently good going forward to fit the style Rodgers seems to want to play. Liverpool seem miles off to be honest and can’t see them being able to hold on to Suarez next summer either
I’d fucking love it if we could get the great Martin Adams in in some sort of consultancy role to complete the set.
Borini has been injured most of the season. Johnson has been brilliant on the right. Enrique has been sublime going forward this season.
Borini has been injured and completely out of position. Rodgers is crackers, he has moved Suarez out wide to play Sturridge up front - who is not even a natural striker and he has played Borini out wide all season when he is a pure striker.
Well done to both Steven Gerrard and Jordan Henderson on winning Senior and U21 player of the year for England last night.
If Sturridge scores one more league goal he will have amassed the same amount of league goals as Andrew Carroll did in last season.
Brendan deserves credit here, and I think Sturridge showed Totti yesterday that he can play a central role.
Jamie Carragher is to retire at the end of the season.
A Liverpool legend.

not to mention our all time record (own) goal scorer
A sad day.
Surely he will be kept on in some capacity, you need that (local) enthusiasm and passion around.
Best of luck Carra. I think we will be seeing sometime in the near future in the managers seat.
