Far from the finished article, and there will be more bumps along the way, but they played city off the park today for large stretches. It was their work rate and pressure applied on city when they didn’t have the ball that largely gave them this platform and you can certainly see what BRod is trying to bring to the club.
Allen (22) Sterling (17), Kelly (22) and Shelvey (19) were all brilliant today - though Raheem was doubled up on in the second half and not as influential, something he will have to get used to. He also needs to work on his defensive side. Allen, was Alonso esque today, pulling all the strings and is going to be a huge star for us.
We may not have millions to throw around like others but if these players continue to flourish we are shaping up to have a pretty good squad going forward, with Suarez, Agger and Lucas also all being in around 26.
Long way to go and right now we still badly need a striker but today will give fans a taste of where we are headed.
Great to see Downing dropped and Sterling play well. It was also interesting that Shelvey replaced Lucas rather than Henderson. Three sloppy as fook errors for City’s goals - really left three points out there. I find Kelly quite cumbersome and clumsy looking at times as he was for the goal.
Much improved performance and I liked the balance of the team today. Reina’s for is a bit worrying.
Very encouraging performance today! Probably should have held on, disappointed for Skrtel who always looks a little shaky when pressed out of the right centre-half slot!
City were poor! Look functional but not clinical or expansive; I’m not as convinced by them as I was 2 weeks back!,
Sterling looks a prospect! Shelvey really stepped up, same with both fullbacks!
Allen was sensational! Him and Sahin could be deadly…
I’m going to ignore the negatives, of which there are a few, but turning around how a team plays is always going to be a rocky transition.
Reina is indeed a bit of a worry, but the other end is far more pressing at the minute. Suarez didn’t play too well today and is best drifting wide. We need a poacher!
Hopefully Hearts are put to the sword early on Thursday and Adam Morgan gets a run out to see where he is at. Scores for fun at academy/ reserves but so did Neil Mellor.
I haven’t heard his interview but I believe Brendan said he is still in the market for players, which is encouraging. But I wonder will Carroll leave ??
Word is that NUFC will come back with a last bid of 17 million! I reckon Rodgers would bite their hands off and try recruit a striker; who that’ll be I’ve no earthly idea!!

Allen was very impressive today, has a great range of passing and really good vision. Delighted Sterling is getting a start, hopefully Rodgers will give a chance to a few more youngsters.
The more I think about it the more I’m convinced Dalglish hadn’t a notion what he was up to.
Lads, I know ye are keen to get another Liverpool fan on board, but could ye at least look for a commitment that this guy will cut back on the exclamation marks before rolling out the welcome mat.
