Manchester United 2022/23 - The Reign of ETH

I can understand Ten Haag wanting to sign Ajax players/dutch league players as he knows them best. There is a scent of Roy Keane at Sunderland off it, which worries me. Roy signed ex Man Utd players and Irish Internationals.

Jose did it at Chelsea, Klopp went to the German League a lot, Wenger brought half of France to Arsenal

Be grand.

Possibly, but itā€™s the dutch league.

Itā€™s hard to attract top calibre players without Champions League football and with Harry Maguire as club captain.

Hag wonā€™t be given time if they arenā€™t top 4 by Christmas heā€™ll be under massive pressure.

In nearly 7 years, Klopp has bought five players from the German league. Karius, Matip, Klavan, Keita and Thiago. He also loaned Kabak. A mixed bag of success there.

Nuri Sahin?

That was one of the earlier Rodgers signings (and signed from Real Madrid as far as I remember)

Exactly, the league that gave us Cryuff, Van Basten, Blind, Romario, Overmars, Bergkamp, Litmanen, Finidi George, Koeman, Robben, Van Nistelrooy, original Ronaldo, Stam, Van Djik, Wjinaldum, Van Der Saar to name but a few.

Ali Dursun, agent of Frenkie de Jong, met yesterday with Richard Arnold, CEO of Manchester United, and John Murtough, director of football for the English club, to reject for the umpteenth time the transfer of the Dutch midfielder to the Premier League.

Point accepted.

I donā€™t blame ETH for signing players he knows. Joe schidmt basically picked every Leinster player for his first few Irish squads.

De jong is a no brainer. Heā€™s a magnificent player.

Id also say it reflects now terrible man uniteds scouting network is as well.

ETH will be judged for me on what he does with van Bissaka, sancho, maguire, rashford, elanga, McTominay and shaw.

Can he improve these players ? I think if he can heā€™s going to be a massive success. Man united are a poorly coached team for a long time now. A good coach improve the squad immeasurably.

Utd v Victory about to start. United are 2/1 to lead by 2 or more at half time. Strong starting lineup named.

1 nil down. Incredibly easy for Victory there. 3 passes and goal.

Klopp hasnā€™t signed any of his former lieutenants from Dortmund as far as Iā€™m aware. Was linked with Gotze in summer 2016 but thankfully opted for Mane instead. Matip on a free from Schalke was a great coup but the vast majority of Kloppā€™s big signings at Liverpool have not been from the German League.

Pep Guardiola has also tended to stay away from players heā€™s coached before at Man City too and hasnā€™t really used the Barcelona links. The top coaches these days seem to look for new experiences with a new group of players.

Too slow in the build up, too pedestrian

Lindelof and Maguire will neber be the CB pairing again.

This puts in perspective how bad that Liverpool team was the other night.

I actually think Lindelof isnā€™t the worst but Maguire has been caught for pace twice and on the ball is way too slow. Put the 2 together and itā€™s very dicey

I agree. A lot of the times Bailly has got injured itā€™s covering Maguire. Luke Shaw can look utterly shit beside him too.

The Liverpool players hadnā€™t even done a training session this yearā€¦ Utd have something like 100 done.
