And what are we? They know what theyâre good at and work to their strengths, Iâd love Ireland to be able to say the same
I didnât know Big Sam started his managerial career as player-manager of Limerick FC. This should be a game-changer for TFK surely? All the die-hard Limerick FC men here? But will the FAI trust the League of Ireland man?
Fuck it, Iâm putting money on Big Sam.
It has to be Big Sam - He understands the domestic league - he understands the people of Ireland. It will be like the second coming of our Lord Charlton.
Big Sam ticks all the boxes. League of Ireland managerial experience as well and even a brief stint in international management.
and after the way he left England Iâm sure hell fit right in with the FAI brass and benefactor
Has Alan Curbishley been linked to the job yet?
Im fully behind the campaign for Big Sam.
What sort of âŹeuros would he be looking for?
They were well organised when they beat the Welsh and drew away in Denmark in the first leg.
Thereâs no Irish player bar Coleman who is an important player in a top half table EPL club which says it all.
You can get in who you want - As long as that wanker Delaney and his autocratic rule is over the FAI, soccer in ireland is going no-where.
Both more than a year ago, and as has been proven many times a 0-0 draw away is not a good result in knockout European competitions
The last real competitive game Ireland played was the home leg against Denmark. The Nations League is really a bit of a novelty tournament.
I think OâNeill did a decent job. Ireland finished above Austria, Wales and Scotland in the qualifying campaigns and above Sweden at the Euros who I think all have/had superior players to Ireland. The style of football wasnât pretty but Ireland donât have pretty footballers and they played to their strengths with decent results. Football is a results business.
I think the time was right to go as Ireland seem to be regressing and maybe a fresh voice might improve things but I certainly donât see his successor having better results or playing more entertaining football. Thatâs where realism should enter the equation.
I agree with the majority of that, but I think he just had an awful lot of luck in most of the big games we won. I wouldnât mind seeing an expected goals tally for our two qualifying campaigns under him. Sweden and Italy in the Euros and maybe Bosnia at home in the playoff are the only games I remember where we had a consistent threat going forward against similar opposition
John Delaney should consult with Tony OâDonoghue before making a decision on the Manager.
playing more entertaining football would be nice but not a pre-req
playing shit football effectively should be a pre-req, i.e having a gameplan.
Passing it around at the back until the first squeeze from an opponent and then hoofing it 80 yards to an isolated small lad up front is not an effective strategy.
depending entirely on set pieces as your only legitimate attacking threat, in international football is disgraceful
what about getting chris coleman?
Fuck off Tony you prick.
I just knew that prick would jump in to make it all about him (OâDonoghue, not you @anon61878697 )
Thereâll be the inevitable and hilarious âwatch the top five most tense MON v TOD post match interviews here!â on j*e.ie and balls.ie later.
Donât care what anyone says, MonKeano did a decent job overall. Got us to one tournament, the play off in another. Stayed on a campaign too long as Irish managers tend to do but I wish them well.
We are muck and most likely not going to qualify for another tournament for quite some time irrespective of who is in charge. The players are just not there and thereâs not much coming through either. Worst/weakest group of players in my lifetime.
Give it âArry when heâs unleashed from the jungle.
'Arry wont be interested in the job as Niko Kranjcar has already declared for Croatia.
