Probably the best value hotel in Limerick (or at least it used to be).
Actually go with Julio Georgios selection of OnePery Square.
Youâd want to stay in the Maldron. Itâs in a lovely spot surrounded by amenities, easily accessible from motorway etc. Have a top level golf course a few hundred yards away. Nice short, safe walk into town too. You could also go for a jog through the estates that surround it and immerse yourself in Limerick culture.
Thanks, all. I used to walk back across the bridge from The Strand to go disco dancing in Tedâs. Is the bridge at that end of town near to all the great pubs you guys regularly chat about? Also, there was a quality restaurant which may be closed. It might have been beside The Locke or it might even have been part of it. Other side of the water to Deloitte or one of the accountancy firms. What was that called? Is it still there? Is Freddieâs Bistro still going?
Mol Darbyâs
You are never far from anywhere once you are in the city centre. Come back to us closer to the time and weâll give you a full run down. Freddies is still going mate, though Iâve never been. Itâs on my list of things to do since my return.
Now known as Azur. Wouldnât be a fan but I know plenty who like it. @Bandage - Freddieâs is still going strong, though if you fancy good quality beef/steak etc, you wonât do better than Brimstone on Bishopâs Quay - almost directly across the river from The Strand.
And you can tie your horse to the railings outside.
Were you his bag carrier?
I was indeed. I was the first year junior, Coins was the second year semi-senior, Rocko was the third year senior and Jambers was the fourth year super senior. Coins had some kind of breakdown during the 3-month audit.
Hard to believe there was a company requiring a three month audit in Limerick. Ye must have been tearing the arse out of it.
My GEuss would be it was a big company in the General Shannon area.
@bandage, no.1 Pery is nice but some of the rooms can be small, so if you are going down that route request one of their bigger rooms⌠The food in there is lovely and the buffet breakfast is a step up from the standard Neanderthal version you get in a lot of hotels. Just donât confuse it with the Best Western Perry hotel when you go researching⌠Overall, Iâd recommend it, lovely quaint bar serving all night and they try to accommodate most requests for room service late into the night.
The Strand and Absolute are next up, both modern, spacious rooms and decent foodâŚnot as personable as the Perry but fine hotels nonetheless and both a short stroll from the cityâŚthe Strand has an OK gym (and pool?) That you could avail of⌠Freddyâs is still going but Iâd be making a booking nowâŚshame princess and I wonât be around for a double date, palâŚrequest a pub itinerary closer to the date.
Did you not get the Christnmas bonus?
@bandage treat yourself to the Savoy. Your woman will thank you.
One Pery sq would mean walking thru a quasi red light district. She wonât thank you for that.
The Strand is good but forgettable.
We live in a brothel so she wonât be phased by the red light district, mate.
@ChocolateMice, thanks for the tips - No 1 PerÂŽy seems to be very expensive but youâve sold it to me.
@Fagan_ODowd - this isnât about bonuses. What better way to spend Valentineâs Eve than watching Wexford hurlers take on Teegeâs Tigers in the Treaty city?
One râŚtypo.
