I wouldnât be mapping every pub in the city - iâd pick a selection along with eateries that have (social) historical significance- Take Mortells for instance, been in business for a few generations, used to be a fish-shop and they have some great pics up of the olden days inside the shop â be great to be able to add some oral sound bites to this section⌠Iâve no interest in fly by night pubs but rather long standing family run pubs/eateries -
Nice idea, Cork is miles ahead in this regard. Have you ever had a look in the Local section of Waterstones in town, the amount of books on Cork commercial history is staggering, I mentioned the tg4 programme about the Limerick flour mills a few weeks back, did you ever see it?
Do you have any information on the Williamsâs shop on Patrick Street, that sign always gives me a chuckle.
My supervisor was behind the mills project but not sure how involved in the tv programme she was⌠CCHA might know her⌠Her son transferred from Mungret to Ballybrown if you can believe that⌠Oh, and fuck Cork.
Youâre in Limerick today obviously, I really admire your loyalties to current location.
Thereâs a pretty cool arch over a yard on Cecil St. Was obviously an old knackers yard, or as the inscription on the arch says âHorse Repositoryâ
Yeah, you could park your horse there for the day as you went supping ale for the day.
I like this old shop front
Theyâve turned a similar effort in Dublin into a pub. Left exterior the same and you can now go in and order a pint and a box of nails
Cunts.
All those houses on Cecil St have cool vaults on the basement level that go all the way back out under the roads.
Most of the old Georgian buildings do⌠or did⌠there used to be a whole world at the bottom level of the city - youâd have servants running in and out dumping piss and shit into the sewage system underneath - which was connected to the Shannon⌠theyâd also be bringing in coal from down there⌠if you ever walk along OâConnell or Cecil street and you notice a small section of old square metal cemented into path outside the houses, they are the old coal shoots⌠They covered in the old vaults on William Street a few years back, the cunts.
Downstairs in the texas steakout is one place to see them.
Rupert Murdoch now owns live 95
The only thing more archaic than the vaults is the menu.
Is that Thugby FM?
The home of Len Dineen and his co commentator Len Dineen.
Where did thugby fm come out of anyway? The coverage of GAA is very good on limerick radio I thought, especially live match commentary. No cork station had live commentary on the last u21 match for example.
Their fawning over the Rugby when it was going well. Theyâve been putting a lot more Gah on lately in fairness.
I see some crowd called âabundant lifeâ have taken the old Smyths toy shop building on Henry street.
An evangelical church apparently.
Whatâs this all about mate?
