Issue with Dublin is the nightlife is good but you canât afford it.
Harcourt street around 2015/16 on a Monday was hopping.
Its dead now.
Youâll never get a house party like college court anywhere else.
Or be able to take drugs so easily.

The College Road/Highfield Road/Bandon Road Quarter of Cork City will always be the mecca of student life in this country.
Nowhere else would you get a 1 in 8 chance of Johnny Dineen being your landlord or be able to pop into Moks for a pint with Jimmy Barry Murphy on a Monday night.
By God
This has sounded a serious klaxon ![]()
Donât let me take from your lovely memories of College fellas, weâre all different
I wouldnât recommend UL to my own kids or anyone else but thatâs just me, a University should be in a city, UL feels like a big secondary school, very safe and enclosed, walking around the place youâd see very very little people who stand out, very conservative, probably because they donât mix with others
Nobody goes near cork.
Just compare the two student raceways.
Thursday in college court is a mix off all the colleges. Galway, Dublin and cork.
It depends on the courses on offer too. The art college in the city obviously has loads of alternative types. UL is full of engineers and county GAA players. Theyâd get a hiding for wearing yellow boots ffs. The music masters or music related courses in UL would have plenty of alternative types. But their faculty is not in the main campus from what I can recall.

Jesus wept. A grown man going around taking notes on the student population and if they stand out from the crowd. This from the father of 3 Taylor Swift fans .
All young people are bland and conservative now. Itâs just how it is. Shur they cant fart without asking chatcbg if itâs ok to do so.
youâve stirred the hornets nest now. all the middle aged Swifties will be after you
I would be an Aaliyah fan and Iâd maintain there wouldâve been no Beyonce if that fat security guard stayed off RKellys plane
@kyle didnât something happen in Mary I one rag week where a bunch of lads went apeshit in a lecture room. Ripped projector off, smashed the place up, and actually took a shit on the lectern?
Their parents all said our Johnny wouldnât do this and threatened legal action.
Turns out there was footage. mammies and daddies quickly quietened and cheques to cover the damage cut⌠the offending students remained⌠Just about
Or am I imagining all of this?
They cant afford it tbf
I know of lads getting a Wexford bus up and down every day. Grim. Some college experience.
He made an outlandish comment about UL not being a good college for socialising. When this opinion was vehemently challenged he had to move the goalposts. But, but, but, they wear more alternative clothes in Trinity. I know fellas who went to Trinity and barely made a friend in 4 years. I had friends made in UL within 4 minutes of arriving in the *door in campus.
*The door hadnât been thrown out a window or into the fire at that stage.
Iâve been advised to say - no comment.
They literally have live footage of the whole thing ![]()
Jesus Christ, imagine the shame & embarrassment if your child logged into the online CAO portal & announced their only third level offer was in Limerick. Iâd do a Joe Kernan & fuck the ipad/laptop
off the wall.
notable that itâs the socially awkward crew piling into to criticise the UL social life. The type that you could drop into a College Court rave and give them a 1992 AC Milan jersey and theyâd nurse a Corona for half an hour before getting a taxi home.
And no sonner would the laptop be bushted on the floor but your long suffering, mollycoddling, idiot parents would have the cheque book out for another one.
They should have cleared you years ago.
I shudder at the thought of Carlow or Waterford equally
The biggest obstacle to the âsocialisingâ aspect of UL is that too- as the price of rent increases (and the college gets bigger), more & more students are commuting daily which, unless you live very close, would definitely hinder the social experience.
Which obviously is something that affects Dublin, Cork & Galway even more.
But having so many students so close to the college itself is brilliant as a student, as you say. I donât have much experience with NUIG but the problem with UCD, for example, is that the students are so spread out. While Dublin itself has some great pluses as a student, the cost and that spread-out factor are the drawbacks. But everyone does like where they went to college really.

Whoa lads, this doesnât have to be personal, my early teen children donât need to be brought into it like ![]()
I have one daughter in college in Galway, loves it, Galway is a daycent student town, sheâs in Roisin Dubh and Monroes etc at gigs all the time,
Most people will enjoy the college experience, for me the idea of being stuck in Castletroy isnât appealing, the gang in that video thinking theyâre hard men, probably big fish in the tiny pond syndrome .
Anyway Iâm obviously yanking your chain a bit, funny how sensitive people are

Imagine having to be bussed off to Dublin to do your Leaving because no school in your own county was capable of dragging you through it.
