Matters Regarding Limerick šŸ™ļø

Bod confirmed above that it was 92. The pools were thronged in the late 80s.

Yea, it was idle for a long time.

Askeaton had a great pool in the 80s/90s albeit outdoors. Itā€™s indoors now.

Foynes had a horrible outdoor pool, filled by the tide, as was Ringmoylan near Pallas.
Copeswood college also had a good indoor pool.

The ground all slimey and we swimming around in the red dust

Would ye not head a few miles up the road to Kilteery pier?

Is the one in Foynes still there?

Sure we didnā€™t have to go anywhere.
Askeaton had the best pool of them all.
I spent every summer there and still canā€™t swim.

And the lep

I havenā€™t heard it mentioned in years. I really doubt it is. It was desperate.
Crabs and seaweed floating in it. It was down beside the Yacht club.

I remember being in it as a child, but thatā€™s the guts of 40 years ago. I donā€™t remember it as being too bad.

Ringmoylan was the worst of them all.
At least Foynes was some way maintained.

Do people swim at the Lep in Askeaton any more ?? Probably not I assume

A pal who walked to ard scoil every day passing the pool and said it wasnā€™t open entire time he was in school and he started sept 92.

He said he canā€™t recall if it was open during Italia 90.

I need closure here.

They do ya, would still be busy if we got a good summer.

I canā€™t swim properly either, probably due to being threatened with being thrown into a freezing Kilteery Pier.

Lucky you can manage to even walk having suffered through those threats. Thrown into it nevermind off it?!

Oh they do ya. Thereā€™s a lot more lawlessness allowed there, the townies love it :grinning:

My sister in law says it was well closed before she went to England in 1979. If she says it was closed, then it was closed. Thatā€™s closure enough for anybody.

I havenā€™t been there with near on 30 years . The rivers arenā€™t as clean as they used to be .

I remember going to Ringmoylan in the 1970ā€™s!
