Whatā€™s the story here @backinatracksuit

All kids from same school or disadvantaged schools?

https://www.rte.ie/news/education/2023/0201/1353040-limerick-second-level-schools/

So if there are 26 kids and there are 16 schools excluding the fee paying one, surely it is a simple case of the schools being told to take one or two extra kids each? Itā€™s not going to adversely affect class sizes in the overall.

Itā€™s hard to explain or know for sure. Thatā€™s a different article than the one I read early this morning. The Ukrainian bit was added. So thatā€™s an extra burden on the system.

Closing St. Endaā€™s was the start of it, leading to this CAS system. Thereā€™s certain students no school wants unfortunately.

Over here it is points and exam results based for secondary. Can be absolute carnage in the city. They organise voluntary competitons in maths, english and polish and if the kids get a high rating there they get an exemption from the points race and can pick any school they like.

Would be interesting to see how much security is put on this site during construction and for residents afterwards.

Thereā€™ll be no need for security.
Once the proper people are ā€œconsultedā€.

Isnā€™t there a big new school being built over beside Northern Trust

Yeh an Educate Together school.

More bad newsā€¦.

Heard of this 2nd hand this morning. Absolutely horrible. It would really upset you, particularly if you have children around that age.

Never saw this one before. Must have been early 2000s?

:speaking_head: Iā€™m From Limerick.

Shocking stuff, she never came home from school and the alarm was raised. My eldest is the same age as her, she goes to school with some of her friends.Just awful.

I spoke to my man on the ground out there. He says the 1000 pupil school is opening in September. Iā€™m not sure how new schools open first. Do they start in first year and work their way to full attendance or do it year by year? Either way it should eliminate the problem.

Itā€™s not a hundred miles from the old St. Endas.

Brown morel in NCW the other day. Great spot for grub

As far as I understand it is a new building for the Educate Together school currently based at Salesians rather than an additional school.

Yea, I heard that but with them being so far apart youā€™d wonder will the pupils transfer on block.

Weā€™ll find out it the ā€œEducate Togetherā€ is really a thing, or just another local school to go to.

The new school will be much larger than what they have at the moment, and it will be the top choice for next years sixth classes, it looks absolutely top class. We wanted to put it as top choice for our current 5th class girl but weā€™re advised that it would be a bad move
So they will transfer all current pupils over and start with a large cohort of first years
