Got here finally for an early lunch. Very tasty. Must go back some evening and have a proper cut off it. We didn’t go off the lunch menu as it was fairly small and there wasn’t much calling out from it, so it came in fairly expensive.

Called in there this evening around 6:15. Place was full and food smelt great so will make a booking next time I’m down. Ended up just hopping into Lana which was fine, and then stopped off at Crew for a few pints after that

Definitely appears a better shot at success for them. But you’d wonder how Level Up ensure a short term success doesn’t lead to their demise.

Hunter Sports likely leasing preexisting space/percentage of take from Level up so costing Hunter nothing even if doesn’t work out. If it does go well, what of Level Ups offering could Hunters Bar not just do themselves? “Thanks for the proof of concept lads, we’ve got it from here.”

Poor auld Level Up could be out in the cold looking for a 3rd site in 3 years and a well positioned competitor eating their lunch.

It would be interesting to understand what the agreement is, and I wonder what Level Up’s income split was between games and drink previously.

Pubs leasing out (usually Thai) food is a common enough business model in the UK, where the pub is quite happy with stable lease income plus takings from the drink without having to worry about operating the additional ‘attraction’. Would be a bit odd if Hunter’s are simply sub-letting entirely to a competitor right next door.

if they go belly up then nobody, especially hunters will look to keep it going. If it’s successful then they’ll either have enough for renting a premises in town or they’ll carry on with hunters if it’s mutually beneficial. If they do go tits up there’ll be cheap arcade machines for sale

Upon further investigation I understand Hunter’s have actually bought all the Level Up equipment and have taken on some of the staff. They will have the arcades located where Bar Alexa was and a further area downstairs around the same size as the ground floor.
