I helped produce a radio show years ago on “WEST LIMERICK ONE OH TWO” on the rural bus around West Limk. Visited Carrigkerry amongst other places in the wilds of nowhere. Some nice memories though and met a lot of characters on the bus.
There are some serious dart throwers from that part of the world.Mike Flynn is from up around there and is/was the Irish No 1 and a lot more along with him
Cruises street is the worst area of the city now.
Cruises hotel is where @balbec and @ciarancareyshurlingarmy used to meet their respective dates before going disco dancing for the night.
It is utterly grim
I remember one night we went to the bingo. It was some big hall in West Limk, fecking rammed, in the middle of the countryside. It was dark, but it might have been a GAA club hall.
Shanagolden?
They need to level cruises street and start again and try to make it a pub/cafe/restaurant street or something
Put a canopy up down the middle so everyone can sit outdoors… Encourage buskers (buy a yealy permit to busk) … It wouldn’t take a lot. Put up a big screen now and again for matches - whatever. A craft beer and burger festival… Anything at all ffs.
It’s a nice closed off space that you can police/ close off when you want but it’s an ideal area for pubs and food outlets.
You were at nothing in town then if you did not go to Ruby’s on a Tuesday night.
Sure we closed off the Crescent, an area full of solicitors and accountants offices, to create some kind of shared space, and ignored Cruises Street which is already pedestrianised and crying out for more footfall.
Better photo ops at the crescent kid. The jewel in the crown of the nicest city on the island
Think it was back there yeah
“Oh, the cold wind from the mountain…”
There was a woman that ran a jewellery shop or ornaments or some kind of stuff that was where Irish Nationwide used to be. She used to have some drive in her and basically went around to the businesses on the street to get some money towards simple thing like Christmas decorations etc. for Cruises Street. Had difficulty with some of the places as they were chains. Think the poor woman passed away a few years back. Some amount of units closed on it.
It’s our #GeorgianLivingRoom.
I saw a fella get an awful hopper off his bicycle after cycling into the bowling green there last week so it’s not all negative.
The wife won’t walk down Cruises St. any more. She’ll attack it from either end if she has to but avoids the bit in the middle where the unsavoury element hang out all day gowling.
Grand places there for them to sit and they never seem to be moved on.
So putting a roof over it is far from the correct answer I’m afraid.
If there’s business and it’s thriving then those people will be shifted.
Up to Cresent by the mayors places.
a hopper. I haven’t heard that word in ages. Classic!
Turn the area into the ruin bars in Budapest. The place already smells of piss so a good start
