We went to Irelandā€™s Eye today. A day out in howth is always great craic for the kids. Island ferries drop you out and you can stay out there for as long as you like. As we approached there was a baby seal sunning itself on a rock. A quality couple of hours put down with a picnic and climbing on the rocks and rolling round the beach. We didnt even climb the summit wed so much to do. Great birds to see and loads of cool spiky caterpillars. The gulls are nesting all over the place and you can see their eggs. Kids absolutely loved it. Sat with their faces out and mouthes open on the boat on the way back letting the waves splash up onto us. Stopped into Nickys plaice on the pier on the way back for a couple of nibbles. A fishburger, some scampi and goujons and a chowder all for 14.50ā‚¬. As good a day as weā€™ve had in a long time. Highly recommended for anyone with kids from about 4 up.

In preparation for the end of the lock down , it might be time to dust this thread off.

Iā€™ll post up one to whet the appetite.

A lovely tour of north East Waterford. Leave the outer ring road at the WIT sports grounds following the signs for Mount Congreve. After about 3 km you will come to Mount Congreve gardens. Nice place to stop and admire the gardens. Decent coffee shop and an opportunity to purchase unusual plants. Get back in the car and head towards Portlaw. After a couple of km youā€™ll come upon the Waterford Suir Valley railway. Iā€™d imagine this would be a diverting trip for those with youngsters but it will take a couple of hours out of your day.

Head again towards Portlaw along the bank of the picturesque Suir and follow the signs for Curraghmore estate, home of All Together Now and seat of the Marquis of Waterford. The house itself is closed to visitors but the grounds constitute a lovely walk.

Leaving the grounds again turn left up a road less travelled. Donā€™t be spooked by the grass in the middle of the road or the goats on the roadside. Keep going up the hill for about 2km and then it all opens out in front of you. One of the finest and least well known views in Ireland. Youā€™ll have the plains of north Waterford in front of you leading into the Comeraghs which have a blue tinge because of the heather this time of year.

To fully appreciate the view pull in about 1/2 a km down the hill at Clonagam church, the Estate church for Curraghmore and burial place of the Marquises of Waterford. If the church happens to be open it has stunning memorials inside but this is a long shot.

Continuing down the hill turn left at the end when you meet a road and travel the 15 km into Kilmacthomas. In Kilmac you can park at the Workhouse and have another coffee and then tackle a bit of the Greenway.

After that you can head back towards Waterford.

When we have our freedom back, I think Iā€™ll head for Charles Stewart Parnellā€™s place in Avondale, havenā€™t been there in years and remember it as a great spotā€¦

Would I be able to hop in the motor and head down to wexford? Itā€™s an agriculture related trip, arguablyā€¦

Cavan- Fermanagh- Monaghan drab, should join Carlow and Laois and Offaly as the grimmest most , featureless parts of our fair isle

Nice

Iā€™m only an authority on what I observed myself

Your table would be agricultural alright

Now now. No need to be throwing out insults on the sabbath

Whatā€™s the crack with the m50. Are nordies expected to pay like the rest of you?

No. Thereā€™s even a special lane for ye.

Not a Sunday drive but Madame didnā€™t have her usual 2 hour morning nap so flung her and young lad in the car after his match and would keep driving till she nodded off. She eventually collapsed just past Bray so kept driving and decided to head to Greystones as had never been before. A fine spot.

She stayed sleeping as we transferred her to the buggy and managed to grab a quick 10 min swim at the cove as big brother watched over her. Then a splendid walk along the well maintained coast to the main beach before heading into the town itself and felt like I was on my holidays. Some noble little coffee shops and eateries with one large spot offering mushrooms that can cure cancer.

A very tasty prawn and mussels linguini with a quality pint of stout in the main pub (bunbary?) before a stroll around the nearby park where there were food tents and a mini outdoor disco for kids.
A right spot and will be back surely
