Mickey Harte's Red Hand Army (2014 Ulster & All Ireland Champions)

I was born in Tyrone and affiliate myself more with the Tyrone culture and football style.

They’ve definitely got a good spine there in the guys you mentioned and will be there or thereabouts. What age would McCurry be? Mattie Donnelly same? Where did they play last year (positions wise)?

After two league games it’s easier to gain a better idea on how we should line-up for the start of the Ulster Championship.

I would like the team to be something along these lines:

-----------Morgan

AN Other—Clarke—Tierney

McGinley—Gormley—McNabb

C. Cavanagh—S. Cavanagh

Grugan—McGuigan—Harte

-----------R. O’Neill

-----McCurry—Donnelly

We should then have a very strong bench with the likes of the McMahons, Penrose, Stephen O’Neill, Cassidy, Coney and others to call on.

McCurry is still u21 or was last year. Donnelly is about 23 as he played on the All Ireland winning Tyrone minor team back in 08/09 along with Harte, McNabb, Coney and a few other current senior squad members.

I know damn all bout some of the lads on the starting 15 Rudi but jez that is some bench!

Tyrone have had a lot of underage success in the past few years, a lot of these lads made the transition into the team last year relatively unnoticed and more are ready to step up this year. McCurry is an absolutely cracking talent and could be as good as Canavan. I’d still have doubts about the defence but I think it should improve as the season progresses, the McCarron situation is a shame and he is one of the best man markers in the country.

No way would i play Peter Harte at wing forward he is made for centre back and that’s where he will play IMO. Unless he’s regressed badly in 12 months or is returning from serious injury then Penrose starts. O’Neill didn’t retire from intercounty?

Gormley is a better defender than him and the centre has been porous against both Derry and Mayo. We could do with the ball winning abilities of Harte in the half forward line as well, Harte could play wing back either but I think Gormley is needed at centre back. Ronan O’Neill plays a similar role to Penrose and now that he is injury free can start turning into the player that everyone expects him to be, he carries a much heavier scoring presence that Penrose will.

I would however expect Mickey to persist with Peter Harte at centre back.

We beat Cavan by 7 points last night to win the McKenna Cup. The team that started showed 12 changes to the team that started against Mayo weeks ago - impressive given that we still have the likes of O’Neill, McMahon (x2), Gormley, Cassidy and Penrose to return from injury. Kyle Coney started and scored 5 points, some fantastic depth and talent in our full forward ranks at the minute.

So the ‘I’m Italian’ is just yet another of your Walter Mitty style delusions. You’re actually from the United Kingdom.

Jealous much?

No need for jealousy. I’m London born myself so I’m also from the United Kingdom.

I have three different birth certs and two of them are Italian.

How many of them are yours though?

They are all mine. Adds to my mystique.

I think we’ll need to see evidence mate.

I don’t think you need to see anything, mate.

Gormley will be lucky and very lucky to get the odd cameo appearance from the bench come summer. Even those will be restricted to corner back/wing back roles, when his “nefarious talents” are likely to be utilised in closing out a game.
If Tyrone are aspiring to playing at HQ in August, then he won’t/shouldn’t be on the starting 15.
A good player in his halycon days, has the medals from the battlefields, but his day is done.
A great servant who done trojan work, along with Sean Cavanagh, in getting them to the last 4 in 2013.

Gormley was Tyrone’s best defender last year and should have been awarded an All Star. He is the best no.6 around at the moment though McKeever would run him close, he is also a leader and a winner. He is The Block from The Rock.

I would take the exact opposite view that you possess, if Tyrone are to have a successful year then it will because Gormley is at the heart of it.
