Hugh Pat.
What’s Michael O’Neill like in goal?
Morgan is decent but he let’s the crowd get to him too much.
He’s a solid keeper. Hasn’t had too many opportunities but was excellent against Donegal last year and lost his place due to an injury.
Thought that.
Any chance he’ll get the nod ahead of Morgan come Championship?
Doubt it, Morgan had been very solid in goals since regaining his place back. A lot of the criticism seems to stem from off days on his kicking which O’Néill would be no better than him in and Harte really likes Morgan.
I’d like to see Harte rotate them during the league and go with the form player for the start of Championship. He regularly did this with Devine and McConnell, given the fact that teams regularly study and target opposition keepers nowadays, it might not be a bad ploy.
Plus if you’re the opposition you know Morgan can go off his game once rattled.
His kicking, yes, but I can’t recall too many goalkeeping errors. He’s a good shot stopper and despite not being very big for a keeper he is very assertive on dealing with the high ball around his area.
Provisional XV for Cavan next Sunday.
- O’Neill
- Hampsey
- Justy
- Hugh Pat
- McCann
- Clarke
- Kieran McGeary
- Colm Cavanagh
- Richie Donnelly
- Sludden
- Mark Bradley
- Meyler
- McCurry
- Mattie Donnelly
- McAliskey
McCarron and McNamee need to cop themselves on, two stupid red cads tonight. Two excellent defenders but McNamee in partiuclar needs to smarten up, gets involved in stuff too much and will become a marked man in this coming season.
Good performance though, Meyler was fantastic and Paudie McNulty and Sludden had a massive impact on the game. Richie Donnelly seems to have been in great form early season, not sure if he was rested or injured tonight but I think he looks the most likely option to partner Cavanagh in midfield this season.
This is a prime example of a post in January that could bite your arse badly come the month of August or even earlier…
Morgan deals with the aerial ball very well, tonight being a prime example of it as Derry launched plenty of long ball into the two big men inside. He’s very good at doing that and taking charge of situations when he needs to.
Some video highlights.
Harry Og Conlon and Patrick Quinn let go from the panel. By my count we currently have a panel of 37 but will probably be releasing Fox, McShane, Brennan and Mulgrew to the U21s shortly and other players will be involved in Sigerson too.
McNabb, Joe McMahon and Niall McKenna currently remain sidelined and are included in that figure of 37.
At least they have their MCK2016 medal. No one can take that from them.

Richie Donnelly, Peter Harte and Sean Cavanagh the notable absentees of those who are not long term injured. Pretty much as strong a team as is available to us at this time of the year.
Strong words from Brolly here.
Brolly revving up shit again.
It really gets to him that Harte never takes his bait.
