Yes. The doctors were not putting the pressure on but the management was, even to the point where they said could me and my brother and our wives not take a leave of absence from work. When asked how would we then pay mortgages and childcare they just shrugged their shoulders.
No. Not having seen it up close. They are fucking sitting around having tea enough. They are busy no doubt but that does not mean you leave the fundamentals. Like yesterday this wagon walked in, turned off the tv in middle of Minor Final and told my auld lad he needed a BP test. She hot fucked out pretty quickly. Pure ignorance. They have come in and used wipes, despite clear instruction from my mother to use the ones she brought in, that he gets a skin reaction to. My mother had to buy them as the head nurse refused to order any others.
As i said it could go on for hours. That was just yesterdays carry on. I had a nurse friend tell me get him out of that ward. They do not give a fuck.
He actually flatlined 10 days ago and was vrought back with shocks and the whole lot. We were never told. They now avoid my mother. The man who was across the way in a bed told my mother in passing ânever yhought iâd see that man againâ he said and she wondered why?. Now we knew he had a seizure etc, but not the details. My mother remebers everything like a computer and when she went back over the notes of that night there was loads of things that made no sense and the times were all wrong.
My uncle had to be taken out another night by porters as he was going to kick the shit out of this nigerian care assistant who refused to listen to my dad who was in agony while being turned (he needed to be turned in a certain way due to iriginal operation which set off this cycle) and yer man ignored him continually and he roraing in pain. I only get told things later cos they know iâd go in and drag some cunt over a desk. He is not the only fella. Its fucking endless. Everybody in there is treated like dirt.
All for 7k a year medical insurance. Well worth hey!?!
There is certain internal cultures as well. Upstairs in ward 4 he was much better looked after the last time, despite plenty incidents as well. This Ward 3 is an absolute jokeshop.

How long would you be waiting for a hospice?
I have seen before where patients were released to nursing homes while the Fair Deal was being processed - then again they were ones with a State element to it.

Of course there are great nurses. But certainly not as many.
My sisters are nurses. They always say the best head to England now if they are up for the move. People interested in helping people despise the irish system.
Of course loads of good older ones who are just stuck here with families etc. But many of them are worn and beaten down by it as well.

Hospice in Cork seems a straight forward proceedure and they are rarely waiting from what i hear.
Money is a big part of this as well.
This is the main problem as far as I can see it. No nurses to be got and those existing ones are worked to the bone. Once that happens it is inevitable that youâll have problems.
There were no beds available in the hospice. The nearest state nursing home was in the Phoenix Park. Unfortunately it just wasnât suitable, plus the consultant and doctor looking after him couldnât give a time all they said it could 3 - 8 months. We looked a private nursing but you are looking at over a 1000 per week for that and since we didnât know how long it would be we couldnât afford it. Luckily enough a bed became free in the hospice just down the road and he was moved there. From the time he went into A&E till he died it was 10 weeks. I will never forget it and I wouldnât wish it on anyone it is a horror show.

On the ground they say there are plenty nurses, they just wonât hire them.
Money is a factor. Australia and the US rob a load of them as well. Living in Melbourne or Brisbane or San Fran and work a 50 hour week for better money???

Thats most of it. You only need to look at the demand for Irish trained nurses in UK. I mentioned it here before but pretty much an entire class of nurses was âpoachedâ by a uk agency 18 months ago due to delays in HSE getting contracts out to them
I think any Junior Doctor or nurse working in the HSE is either desperate or were the bottom of the class because anyone else wouldnât touch the place with a barge pole.
My auld lad has cost the system/insurance/whoever 200k +this year.
He went in fir an operation to remove a sore from sitting mist his life and they fucked it up 3 times, infected him and kept him in for 8 months in total. It was supposed to be a 4 day job.

Dont get me started. I have questions over my Dadâs death as well but my mother wont let me do anything about it. But I they fucked up and when I was discussing it with my doctor he had the same opinion.
Ah I dont think thats true either tbh. Loads stay for good reasons but the system grinds them down hugely. Working in private hospitals is marginally better but not as much as you would think. My wife is a nurse in private hospital and its carnage

Whats actually hapoening now is the rest of us are supporting my mother so she can go in and battle out with them. Its like preparing a fucking boxer. I have her exercising, getting acupuncture, everyone goes in to give her breaks etc.

She will need to be. We told my mother that she wasnât to go to any meetings with him without one of us being with her. It annoyed the hell out them when she wouldnt agree to meetings unless we could be there.

They held meetings deliberately not telling my mother. She caught them one tuesday morning insude all around him and lost it. She ran the âmatronâ (they are called something else now) out of it. They are cunts.
