Motorways driving

40k Notre Dame fans over probably the cause. I was chatting to a woman last night who told me she drove straight through Temple Bar and politely returned the car to the airport the next day.

Hape of cunts slowing down to look at the crashes as well.

Sure you’d want to report as accurately to TFK as you could.

Anyone any idea how you would check out if you still have penalty points or if they have expired

NDLS, they’ll tell you, just confirm a few details with them first

They send you a letter when they have expired

Clear to see the clowns in charge haven’t a clue. In reality irish people dont know how to drive on roads, read conditions, use phone, dont know how to correctly use a roundabout, indicate on roundabouts or see a mule long queue behind them

No changing the number on the signpost will solve it I reckon

Speed limits are guides.

Teaching & preaching safer driving is far more beneficial.

  • Every secondary school going child should be getting basic driver training imo.
Really sow it into them the pitfalls of speeding, poor practices & basic driver requirement’s as regards rules of the Road.

Letting them crash course learn rules before a test isn’t good enough.

Not a hope, on the signposts, how much will be wasted in changing these. I got cuaght in a line of traffic yesterday. From buttervant to croom behind some clown going 60kmh the whole way, even in 50 zones. No where safe for anyone ahead to overtake, i was behind a oil truck and there wasnt a hope for him to overtake nor myself to overtake him safely. This frustrats people to make poor decisions not anyone excess speeding.

On top of the useless cunt ahead, the truck almost hit an auld wan who could barely walk, crossing the road without looking outside the AIB in charlaville withoit looking. The truck was barely going 10kmh. The same spot where another pedestrian was killed a few months back. Again not speed related. 2 pedestrian crossings within 100m of there.

I 100% agree with you. That would be very helpful and the theory test alone to drive agri machinery is madness imho. Driving lessons and trsts should include motorway driving (where appropriate not all centres are near a motorway)

I think a retest after 10 years should be performed for all drivers. To baseline current standards anyone who got their licence before 2005 (date picked from my hole) should have to do a driving course. It grinds my gears seeing people indicates right when entering a roundabout to take the second exit (an exit left of centre of a roundabout), then indicate left after passing the first exit. Thats basic roundabout use.

On safety use of phones while driving is chronic at the moment

100%.

There’s speed limits on our roads that make no sense. The N3 coming into Dublin is a wide straight dual carriageway and it’s 60kph. And it’s a place where you’ll see tons of speed vans. I used to drive the road every single day and I never remember a bad accident on it.

I drive plenty of dangerous roads too and you’ll never see a speed van on them.

And it’s years since I saw a checkpoint of any kind.

Another instance of government policy made on the hoof or closing the stable door after the horse had bolted, so to speak. If this recent surge in road deaths had not occurred none of these proposed changes would have been mooted. It’s all reactionary rather than proactive. We don’t know if excessive speed was a contributory factor in these recent tragedies. Motor accidents resulting in fatalities can occur at all speeds.

I’ve got penalty points twice, first time was coming into Birr from the Tullamore side in a 60km zone near the garden centre, clocked at 75km, it’s now an 80km zone, this was in 2007. Second time was in 2014 beyond Liffey valley approaching the M50/Palmerstown City Centre junction, the limit goes from 80/60 there is a stand alone sign that is barely visible noting 60km, clocked at 78, the next time after being caught I slowed down to below 60 and nearly caused a pile up and was blown out of it.

While people would complain about the costs involved I fully agree with this…

4 years ago I sat the Trailer Towing test and my obstructor was horrified at my bad habits.
I was totally unaware of them either and it took a few lessons to iron them out.

In saying all of the above, good practice isn’t worth a fuck without some deterrence too.
You need to see Gardai on the roads too.

Spot on chief

The Clonmel incident wasn’t excessive speed related.
Bad luck and design of car.

The Cashel incident was definitely speed but if what I’m hearing is true there was no belts being worn and drivers judgment was impaired by other substances.

Generally motorway accidents and lack of concentration owed to phone use.

Although a major pain for learner drivers, I would definitely say no driver should be on the road without a licensed driver accompanying them or without the full test passed themselves.

I think graduated fines for speeding would be appropriate too. A fella doing 60 in a 50 zone and a fella doing 80 in the same zone shouldn’t be given the same points/fine

Agreed. Politicians are so predictable. We’d better be seen to do something here as opposed to doing anything practical. Changing speed limit is a token gesture that will have minimal impact, might raise an extra few quid in revenue. Traffic guards are mainly found on the motorway where I’d safely say very few fatalities occur.

Cost of living is out of control. They decide to give everyone a subsidy so they’re seen to be doing something. What does it achieve? Drives prices up further and those in need are actually worse off due to government intervention.

There needs to be fines dished out for jaywalking. I see people climb thru barriers to cross a local roundabout while there are 3 zebra crossings for them to use.

Totally agree. This is an epidemic, particularly in city centre areas.
