Munster Rugby - We DID start the fire (Part 1)

Jaysus. Some investment.

No idea

Played a few hurling challenges on the 3G pitch in UL and its a different sport to playing on a traditional pitch in winter.

Lovely try from Haley there.

Joint venture between school and the club. A prominent racing owner gave an interest free loan.

There has been plenty senior league games played on the artificial pitch at PUC

He’s a great man. Did a similar solid for a few gaa clubs in Dublin too.

Those pitches need regular maintenance and upkeep otherwise they’re death traps. Ballymun’s, which was state of the art at the time, is like a road now.

Banteer GAA club are developing a full size 4g GAA facility with a stand at the moment. Cost 1.4m. Got 1m grant for it and fundraising the rest. It is going to be unbelievable set up

Would you be better off putting in top drawer drainage into a normal field do you think?

The pitches only last about 10 years from what I can see before they are wrecked

Have they a local minister? A grant covering that % of an outlay is serious going.

Yeah I’d say so and use an overflow field if you’re lucky to have one to give it rest when required. All weathers only required really in 2-3 months of year for training. Best off leasing/renting them from soccer or other clubs.

No. Not even a TD or a councillor. The village has a population of about 300 if say. No pub. But they have a national school with a community creche next to it. The creche was opened about 10 years ago and is such a success there is a waiting list for it and for the national school is completely full. Whole thing community funded.

They put an indoor 4g facility behind the school part grant funded also and thats fully paid off now.

The GAA handed the grounds over to the community I think…apparently that opens up load of grant funding opportunities that GAA/sports clubs are excluded from. They put a massive playground and 1 km floodlit walking path around the grounds through grant funding.

And now this. They have a brilliant man who looks after all the funding applications
He is one of the top boys behind in Wyeth and knows the system and the application process inside out

Are they junior?

Yep.

Fr. O Neills home ground is a community field. Loads of grants for playground, floodlights, running track and the like.

There’s fellas make a living off going around helping clubs apply for grants. It’s half the battle apparently

Absolutely. The applications are a minefield for a volunteer with no time on their hands
