Munster Rugby - We DID start the fire (Part 1)

John Hayes played a few seasons with Shannon too.

Billy O Shea was Shannonā€™s biggest legend. The silver fox

Andrew Thompson was a great player.

Fondly remember watching him in Thomand park with my father and grandfather who played for Shannon. Munster senior cup medal with Dolphin in the 1940ā€™s also - which is a blight on him.

Its sad to see club rugby now so down.

Correct, he did. John Hayes was affiliated to Bruff for a lot of his caps though.

Colm Tucker is the most decorated Shannon player with the British Lions. He started (and finished) the 3rd and 4th tests in Port Elizabeth and Pretoria in 1980.

Tuckers are a big Shannon family.

Seems to be real hatred towards him On here but Iā€™ve good time for him. He was a very good but not brilliant player who always gave his best for Munster and Ireland.

Iā€™d also have huge respect for him for walking away when his heart wasnā€™t fully in it. Itā€™s easy to take another contract and just get by half heartedly for a couple of seasons.

A Laoisman is Shannonā€™s greatest ever.

Stander will be a huge loss for Munster. A good guy to be honest - best of luck to him and his family.

Colm Tucker was a terrific flanker. Only won 3 caps for Ireland. His misfortune was to be vying with Slatts for the Number 7 shirt.

Fuck away out of it, you know nothing about it.

Heā€™ll be a loss but thereā€™s a couple of seriously talented young lads coming along. Theyā€™ll benefit from this.

Great that heā€™s able to leave the game injury free with a few pound in the bank.

Seems like a very likeable fella. Munster wonā€™t easily replace that mate.

Fuck him. Heā€™ll be forgotten in a couple of years.

For most of the team of us - a couple of weeks id say mate :expressionless:

Heā€™ll never be one of us and thatā€™s the long and short of it. Good luck and thanks.

So itā€™s Andrew Thompson with the most honours won as a Shannon player.

Think itā€™s Alan Quinlan as the most capped Shannon player for Munster, also featuring on both European Cuo winning teams in 2006 and 2008.

John Hayes (105), Peter Stringer (98), Marcus Horan (67) and Anthony Foley (62) all have more Ireland caps than CJ Stander (50).

Colm Tucker has the most British Lions test appearances for a Shannon player.

Anyone have any idea why @Halfpipe was claiming that CJ Stander is the most decorated player in the history of the Shannon club?

:joy: true enoughā€¦

Did he captain SA to an underage WC?

Iā€™m surprised at you Dan, that you would even suggest a lad without a British and Irish Lions cap could be in the reckoning when discussing such matters. While Colm Tucker merits discussion, Colm never managed to win a Test match with Ireland never mind captain them to a Test win like CJ. Add to that his Grand Slam win and getting to a world cup quarter final and it is clear that CJ is Shannonā€™s most decorated.
More remarkably, he has come through and done all this at a time when Shannon and the club game in Limerick has been at a low ebb. With him leaving now the best that can be hoped for is he has inspired a new generation in the area.

Jokes aside, it is a shame that club rugby has been decimated by these IRFU franchises,

The game is fucked when the best young players choose fucking Munchins schools rugby rather than Shannon in terms of playing the game at 15 years of age etc.

I donā€™t know a whole pile about it admitedly, but the cunts are shooting themselves in the foot with that craic.
