Clare lads felt the ball hasnât crossed the line. It was a tight call but umpire seemed fairly sure.
As regards Moran, he can have no complaints. Kelly won his free and Ryan gives him a sneaky dig of the Hurley when he got up, hence why he gave Kelly is in his ear. Moran esculated the whole thing running 15 yards from centre back to hit Kelly a dunt. It was braindead from an experienced player, especially at a point where they already had used 5 subs and were under serious pressure all over the field. Summed Waterfords approach up in the day, their heads were all wrong.

Moran red card reminds me of Sean tobins red card v Clare in 2016 was it?
No, Moran didnt strike with the Hurley like Tobin.
The hurling is great lads. A man put off ina game they were going to lose anyway and we gonna about for a week until the next refereeing fuck up/ case of grievous bodily harm
I meant in terms of doing something that happens all the time and lads up in arms when the rule is enforced
What rule did the ref implement?
That never happened, Kelly won the free and turned back to Ryan who gave him a gentle push with the hurley, there was no dig
It happens. How many men have seen red since Podge was against Wexford for a helmet tug? Bennett retrospectively and thats about it.
When you do these things straight in front of the ref and give him the opportunity to send you off he most likely will.

Dig, gentle push, shove, whatever term you want to describe it. It is what led to the verbals, which led to Moranâs sending off. Kelly well within his rights to give him an earful after Ryan initiated the afters.

Kelly was as much at fault for the afters as Ryan, anyway its fairly irrelevant, Moran shouldnât have been sent off, you canât be third man into a non existent melee
Lads are gone demented over this incident.
No he isnt. He had his free won, he is no sooner up and Ryan follows on which led to the verbals.
Any forward worth his salt would be in his mans ear when he wins a free and his man tries to get a sly one in afterwards because he is rattled.
While you can say there is no melee, you canât run 15 yards when play in dead to drop a fella with a body check/frontal charge either. It was braindead from Moran
There was a couple of minutes of intense showldering in the aftermath of Moranâs assault mate
Not a melee, and even if it was Moran would have been second man in not third man as what Tommy Ryan and Tony Kelly were doing was certainly not a melee
Braindead or not, not a red card by any law in the game
Contributing to a melee is a red card offence as per the rule book.
If Moran doesnât go 15 yards out of his way there is no melee

From Willie Barrett
Barrett said: âThis is something weâve certainly honed in on. Weâve seen a number of games where a melee has occurred and weâve asked our referees to deal with it very strongly. Where there are two players involved, itâs fine, the referee can deal with it, but where more players come in and add to that⌠it then becomes a melee. Whatâs a melee? Making a bad situation worse. So, we feel that we need to deal with that and weâve given clear instruction to referees that red cards must be issued in those situations where players are coming in and youâre eventually seeing five or six or seven players involved.
We would be particularly honing in on the first and second person into the melee, shall we say, after two players have been involved. We believe thatâs causing other players to come in. Likewise in hurling, if itâs left to the two players and the referees and officials, thereâs generally no difficulty.
