No the move was definitely going to be Patrickswell - but his Father has such close ties with the club he couldnât. I dunno did he really actually consider it anyway to be fair.
I think they are a top team in Junior A - Itâs just such a minefield that even getting through a long Group Stage you still need to win 3 matches (knockout) more to win it outright.
They have Mike McCormack (the former LMK Footballer) now who wasnât there last year for Championship I think, so heâs a massive addition.
Last year, he put in one of the greatest individual displays Iâve ever seen at a club game against Killeedy in absolutely septic conditions but they ended up losing on penalties.
He needs more help from the other forwards than he got that day if they want to win the Junior. There are a couple of teams down there with a few effective forwards.
Coughlan was, until u14 I think.
Kieran Kennedy of Na Piarsaigh played junior a with us until he âmovedâ into Limerick and had to transfer.
County panelist Rory Duff of mungret started his career with us and lives in Crecora.
Sure the Well havenât beaten the balbec in a county final since 1971. Go away will you!
[quote=âAristotle, post:31, topic:37838â] I certainly wouldnât be wasting Byrnes at 6.

Youâll have to explain this one to me. How is him playing centre back wasted? I think a 6 at club plays a lot different to 6âs at intercounty. Youâre not just shovelling the ball out to wing backs and midfielders, itâs still relatively old school. Long clearances etc. Byrnes has had some huge games for the well at 6.
He was excellent there in the 2019 county final from what I remember when everyone else was panicking as NAP were reeling them in.
I kind of get the point @peddlerscross is making, it is only so often that you end up with three of the top 15 hurlers in the country at their peak at the same time in one club side. The likes of Barefield and Newtownshandrum both bucked a relatively small pick and tradition when they had a small collection of generational I/C hurlers and a solid but unspectacular supporting cast of solid club hurlers but won multiple munster titles and contested multiple A/I finals in a time when club hurling was strong in both counties.
Portumna are probably in a different tier with Ballyhale as they had a very decent supporting cast of solid I/C hurlers around their generational lads.
I know they are a dual club but Loughmore shpuld be having a crack of an Ireland club. Gave Ballygunner a great game few years back.
But theyâve won 2 County Championships in an era where weâve seen the strongest ever club side in Limerick in Na Piarsaigh.
And arguably the second strongest ever club side in Limerick in Kilmallock (the toss for that could be argued with some Patrickswell/Ballybrown/Kilmallock/Liberties teams of the past but theyâd be up there)
Not to be glib but the 2x County Championshipâs they won were when Na Piarsaigh more or less took a year off in 2016 and when they had Mick Ryan in charge in 2019.
Ah yeah sure.
Ballygunner took it easy the year Borrisoleigh beat them, they were only half at it
Which is no mean feet but on the face of it given their star power itâs strange that that they fell so flat in Munster with the monkey off their back while sides with similar compositions drove on.
Itâs not like the well wouldnât be used to or lack tradition in terms of winning county finals either.
No Ballygunner were flying and even stronger than the year previous with Dessie onboard the year Borrisileigh took them out.
Their two previous games saw them go to Sixmilebridge and run up a cricket score and beat Patrickswell out the gate in the semi final.
Na Piarsaigh were a mess in 2016 and 2019.
2016 i donât think theyâd any interest.
2019 they played very poorly on the day
Ah, you see my point then? I thought that would ring the bell alright.
Pure all high stool rubbish talk for virgins with too much time on their hands that kind of stuff.
Ciaran Carey and Gary Kirby seemed to gleam more success from their time in a Patrickswell jersey. Must have won 8 or 9 Limerick senior titles and a couple of Munster titles. I suppose the supporting cast was probably stronger back then as rural depopulation wasnât as much of an issue at that stage. NAP werenât a major force at the time either. Surely that Well team would rank above the recent Kilmallock team.
But neither year they were the best team in Limerick. Like it was a joke in 2016 what went on and in fairness the vast majority of the well side won their first county medal as well if not all off them. Think they lost badly a week later.
Killmallock are much stronger across the board.
The Well are nearly always carrying 3 or 4 total passengers these days.
Oh Iâm talking about the Well team of the 90âs. They have a fair body of work looking through their record during that period.
Ciarans brother was meant to be an outstanding club hurler. Barry Foley also would have been going well back then.
Youâd no nap back then though as well.
