Is it fucking Go Games?
If he didn’t know for sure, obstructed by the pile of bodies.
The safe bet was a clash ball and wide.
No it fucking wasnt.
It wasn’t a clash ball though, it clearly went off the hurley of the Waterford player.
They’ve more a genuine gripe over where the ‘65 was taken from and the lack of time added subsequently. Between the pen and the ‘65 kerfuffle, it must have eaten up the guts of two mins of the four that were due to be added.
They got the decision right for the ‘65 but the days of the refs bringing on their father-in-law or elderly uncles for the free dinner and day out for championship matches should come to an end. Keep them for league games but there’s so much off the ball manhandling and holding going on you need a fully qualified ref with their full faculties and eye sight for big championship matches.
Then again James Owens as umpire - maybe not…
The biggest farce was not giving Waterford another play after the 65. I’d say the ball was in play for about one minute of the minimum four minutes announced.
Johnny Murphy would do wreck as an umpire. He’d have his hand out for the whole game
I’ve long been of the view that umpires should be up and coming young referees
The rules are fairly clear on what additional time can be added on for and what it can’t. A study a while back concluded the ball is in play for about 30 minutes in a 70 minute game, it’s not for the referee to start changing the rules in additional time. If he felt Kelly was too slow taking the free or it took too long to hit the 65 he has to throw the ball in, not add on more time.
Twas the experience of umpiring hundreds of games and the bit of maturity that led yesterdays umpire to the correct decision, what business has a teenager or young lad in his 20s being put in that position and being expected to reach the right decision.
People saying refs should use their linesmen, other officals, technology etc more.
Yesterday I’m guessing was the perfect example of them all working together to arrive at the correct call and people are losing their shit over it.
Its incredible. Fuckers always want to bitch and moan about something. They’d sicken your hole.
I would have no time for Tipp hurling at all but I can see how bad it is for what is a rapidly shrinking niche sport that one of the traditional superpowers are in such a jocker.
Wales in rugby a similar comparison maybe
That’s what I was going to say.
It looks to me like the umpire got a message from another official.
I think he has a clear enough view of TDB rising the ball and it is over the line - albeit the tv view is inconclusive but he has a clear view - he then starts to meekly walk out to the spot so his obvious gut feeling was it was a 65 - but as he is ambling out I think he starts to panic and doubt himself, it’s written all over his face.
Like if he felt it was a wide initially he would have simply stood where he was and waved it wide.
There was a Peter Duggan shot in the second half which looked inside the post to me and I was right behind the flight of the ball but the same umpire waved it wide and didn’t seem all that certain then either
Rodgers fouled the ball in taking the 65 so it should have been rescinded and a throw ball. Rules are rules.
A more general sense amongst Waterford supporters that the big houses get looked after. Tipperary got 1-1 against Waterford in injury time, a goal courtesy of a square ball and then a phantom free for the classic let’s make a draw of it. A draw yesterday would all but have eliminated Cork before a ball was even struck in Thurles. There’s plenty of bumper paydays ahead for the GAA this summer with Cork and 30,000-40,000 supporters on the march.
It is at the discretion of the ref as regards how much time is played but there was so many stoppages in the allotted 4 minutes, there was surely at least another play.
Waterford do only have themselves to blame though. That was a game they should have won on the balance of play.
The irony for Clare as well is that a draw yesterday would have been just grand to get to Munster Final and eliminate Cork as a demoralised and essentially hopeless Tipperary await next week. Clare will most likely have to contend with a revitalised and dangerous looking Cork further down the road too.
There is a comparison but at least tipp is rottening from the top team down. Clubs in tipp are still doimg fairly well if you compare the club game in wales is dying
Maybe the tipp posters alcan correct me but the interest a club is still strong
Clare is hardly a “big house”?
A “no house”.
Mud hut?
