And our lads have actually won a few knock out games that matter.
The hurlers wont be struggling to remember their own names in 10 years. Thats the difference
So you think
Cork are flying it at the moment. Connelly, Barrett and Hayes have given Horgan and Harnedy new energy it seems. All five of those forwards are performing.
Fitzgibbon and then kingston off the bench have been delivering massively also with real pace running off the shoulder.
If Limerick can manage to get over Waterford on Sunday , a re-match in Croke park would be some occassion down the line. Lot of hurling to be played before that though obviously.
Id like to see Lynch in the ‘Casey’ role, with his game sense he’d be able to roam around getting into space and pick up posessions but not have to try and win primary ball which he doesnt seem to be able to do
Some of the guys from the 22 u20s dont seem to be making an impression in terms of getting in the matchday 26, such as Quilty, Hurley or Scully( hes still u20 so has plenty of time)
To be fair:
Quilty is currently out with a cruciate injury, hard to get into the team when you’re not fit.
Hurley was still U-20 last year and is only in his first year on the panel. Lovely strike on him but still a bit off senior intercounty, I would think. Didn’t exactly impose himself in club games last year, maybe lacks a little aggression yet?
And I don’t think Scully is even on the panel at the moment. Played fairly well for the 20s alright but will definitely have to work on his weaker side/not get caught on it as often.
But English, Ó’Dálaigh and AOC are all featuring regularly from the bench now, the latter two weren’t in consideration last year. FOC made his Championship debut last weekend. Along with CON & Coughlan, that’s 6 of the 26 from that team and you have to remember they are trying to break into our strongest ever team. You would expect SOB to be the next one to make the step up, and I’d still be hopeful for POD next year too.
Ticketmaster. WHY?
Quilty shouldn’t be getting near the Senior hurlers
Fit or not
I like Jimmy as a corner-back. Did a serious job on Alan Connolly at U-20 level, for example. Big step up to senior obviously but he’s definitely in the top 36 or 37 hurlers in the county, especially when we’re short on backs.
Hannon has had the look of a fellow for a while now whose legs are gone. He made his championship debut back in 2011. That’s a long time ago.
Tbf more of that limerick u20 team have broken through at senior than the kk team that beat them. CON, English, coughlan, ó Dálaigh as well as AOC and FOC getting couple of runs also.
Most of the kk team have struggled, drennan has shown promise, but it’s only flashes. Shine and gearoid Dunne still have to prove themselves at senior, albeit both u20.
Even at the time (I know it’s only 2 years ago), people felt that Limerick probably had more standout teams but that Lyng had built Kilkenny into a strong team.
But there is probably a similar number who have been in and around the 26, just haven’t made a massive impact at Championship level just yet (but the Limerick ones are only now really having sub impact).
Timmy Clifford is one that probably has the ability but does he have the rest of the package? Shine is probably the best of the lot but was only 18 in 2022.

It looks like an interesting year.
If Limerick, Clare and cork advance as expected you sense this could be the last year for Limerick. The injuries are piling up and I’d say management could be breaking up.
Cork look like the coming force with a clutch of young players. Not sure on management and a little like Tipp in 2010 you need to pair the management and players like Limerick and Kilkenny to be really successful. Just look at Clare post 2013.
Clare are a good team but are backboned by 5 or 6 lads from the 2013 all Ireland hurling winning side. These fellas can’t have much more left in them. If Clare don’t win it this year their current team will slowly break up again and they could end up missing out after coming up against a great Limerick team and then running into a cork side who could also be dominant for a few seasons.
A real sliding doors championship.
Did I hear shane Prunty was picking between the Clare or Limerick games to play in?
Probably the difference between qualifying for a county like Waterford.
Another example of the microwave championship favouring the stronger counties.
Any number of players playing injured as well. Easy for the counties to put the pressure on with no club games of note coming up.

Only you can know that chief.
Shocking lack of respect in that graphic for the teams on 1-5 All Irelands.
It’s hard to be fully sold on Cork yet
I’ve seen too many days where that back 6 have been very poor. Rob Downey is no quicker than Hannon. And his brother is susceptibile to pace also. And TOM is very loose.
When limerick started to do better on the cork puckout we started to accumulate scores fairly handily. It was 2-15 to 0-9 in the second half before the late goal.
Cork are coming whether it’s this year or next. They have the players.
The big Q is the management.
