When you look through the subs listed, Clare have a serious panel of players. Really should be performing better year on year.

good mind the cocky cunts

Tomorrow is a very interesting game. Cork will have the bones of 40k at it by the sounds of it and they seem to be cock sure that they will do the double and the place should be electric tomorrow. On the form of their two games so far you would expect them to perform to a similar standard again but I think this Clare team will know exactly what to expect and are capable of winning this game if their attitude is right.

I am heartened by the Clare team, the balance of it with Reidy, Podge, Kelly and Galvin in the side between 8 & 12 was never really right. Reidy is the man to lose out, he has played well over the last 18 months and I thought he was decent from open play against Limerick but his poor showing from placed balls against Limerick counted against him. Would have been interesting to see what management would have done if Reidy had nailed the frees the last day out. Malone is no superstar in the making but he is big, mobile and honest and should help slow down the cork half back line and is well able to win dirty ball, all he needs to do is work hard and make good decisions on the ball for 50 odd minutes and then we can spring the likes of Reidy or Cathal Mc when it opens up.

Will be interesting to see what match ups the backs go with. David Mc will stay at 3 and Cleary will be 6 but any of O’Brien, Morey or O’Connor could play in the half backline. Do you send O’Brien out to man mark Lehane or let him take Cadogan. I think they might keep O’Connor on Horgan and let Morey pick up Kingston and O’Brien then takes Cadogan.

Both Podge and Lehane will drift out then meaning both centre backs will sit. Cork have used Cooper to pick up the opponents center forward in the last couple of games and it will be interesting to see if they persist with this as it would mean that fitzgibbon would then have to take Kelly.

Our puckouts need to be far better, Fahys delivery needs to be better and our movement in the forwards needs to be better too. We also need to mix it up and just send it long from time to time and let Shanagher, O’Donnell, Conlon and Malone battle for it. But shutting down Cork’s puckout options is probably more critical and it will be interesting to see our approach to this especially in shutting down Lehane and Coleman.

If our puckouts and free taking is as bad as the last day then there will be only one winner but I expect that they will. Kelly will take the long ones and McGrath the closer ones and both are made of the right stuff and I wouldnt expect either to have the yips.
