Music Questions

most of ye here know as much about music as a pig would know about a clean shirt

FAO of Barmy: New Emancipator album Dusk to Dawn out on January 29th. First single Minor Cause free to download on the website.

Cheers mate.

Any love for John Prine chaps? Going through a bit of an Americana spell and stumbled across him last night… Any other recommendations like Ryan Adams, Avett Brothers, Decemberists etc ?

John Prine is a legend and well worth investigating further. Start with the early stuff like Sam Stone, Hello in There, Donald and Lydia and Angel from Montgomery. From about 1978-1981 he recorded some heavier stuff, the pick of which is 1980’s superb Bruised Orange.

As regards the rest, you won’t go wrong with Ryan Adams but, if you like Prine also check out Townes Van Zandt, Guy Clark, The Jayhawks and the absolute master of them all, Warren Zevon.

Cheers, Elvis.

Not blown away by that single Bandage.

Prine is superb. Saw him in concert a few years ago and he was outstanding. He was ill but insisted on doing several encores.

Ryan Adams can vary between the sublime and average. Gold and Heartbreaker are brilliant, Easy Tiger and 29 are only ok. Adams releases almost everything he records so quality can vary enormously.

As Elvis says, Guy Clark and Warren Zevon are well worth checking out.

Iron and Wine, Bon Iver, Gillian Welch all worth a look too.

The Felice Brothers.
Steve Earle.
Good shouts on Guy Clark.

Cheers lads.

I’d like to highly recommend the album Lonesome Dreams by Lord Huron if you haven’t heard it yet.

What genre are we talking CM?

Indie folk… Bit lively than fleet foxes but similar.

New Yo La Tengo album is quite good. Picked it up in HMV on Monday. Phew!

I really like Santigold, chaps. What’s the verdict?

Have only heard her early stuff…some good, some bad.

Palma Violets - yay or nay?

Not a music question
