Waterford wouldn’t have a great record first day out in Munster performance wise. A bit erratic.
Last year: last minute goal to win.
2010: Beat Clare. Made hard work of it.
2009: Drew with Limerick. Low scoring.
2008: Lost heavily to Clare.
2007: Beat Cork in shootout with Cork missing suspended players.
2006: Lost to Tipp.
They were especially poor in the first round under Davy. Even the year they won the Munster championship they were fairly average.
Because limerick should have beaten us and a better side than Waterford would have exposed the weaknesses such as plunkett, flaherty and as it turned out Griffin, in that Munster final tipp tore plunkett a new arshole and by the time we took him off and moved in Gerry Quinn and also took off flah we were 10 pts down, can you remember what happened then?
So what? Would we have won the All Ireland if we Waterford had beaten us?
No but we might have won a Munster and at the very least found our weaknesses and addressed them properly
Flaherty ended up with up with 1-8 or thereabouts that day, 1-2 from play. Think you are being slightly harsh on Griffin, he came off early in the Limerick game with a hamstring injury and wasn’t right for that Munster final and it showed. He didn’t play the Cork match 2 weeks later due to the injury, he was bullied by O’Brien but the injury had a big bearing on that all the same
We would have won Munster if Waterford beat us?
He was bullied by obrien because his head was gone and all the scores he got v waterford were when he was unmarked and standing , not even on the move

Bit of value in hurling betting this weekend I reckon.
Beating Waterford and Limerick in the 2008 Munster championship stalled real progress for Clare. Eh… yeah. Whatever.
You’re a bit slow on the uptake, I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt this time
Eh, yeah. Whatever.
Who or what do you like?
Offaly to beat Limerick looks like outstanding value
Dublin will beat Tipp.
What price are they? Limerick should steamroll them. I’m interested in Waterford +7 on the handicap.
I think that both Galway and Kilkenny will beat the respective handicaps with a bit to spare this weekend
Biffos are best priced 12/5 with the Stoke mafia.
I’ll be avoiding the Waterford Galway game at all costs from a betting perspective. When the Galway hurlers begin to look like a sure thing against a team under fire I always get worried.
Ken McGrath has been appointed selector to the Waterford senior hurling team following the departure of selector Nicky Cashin.
Manager Michael Ryan confirmed to WLRfm Sport that the former All Star will join the backroom team.
McGrath will be in situ for his new role for this weekend’s Allianz Hurling League Division 1A match with Galway at Pearse Stadium.
Ryan added that Cashin’s departure from the Déise setup was due to personal reasons, and that Cashin departs on good terms with the team and management.
McGrath played centre-back for Waterford from 1996 until 2011, winning four Munster SHC titles, and one National Hurling League crown during that time. He was also a three-time All Star during that period.
The Mount Sion clubman also won six Waterford club titles and one Munster club title.
