I like the way football fans have this entitlement about owners. There are lots of owners who piss about for sure, but in that show they make Ellis Short out to be evil for âânot putting any money inâ when in the second series you discover that he was really putting money in the whole time to keep the lights on and cleared ÂŁ160m worth of his own debt at the end. The truth is that most fans donât give a shit on how things are financed until things go badly, then they scream for âinvestmentâ, which is really more irrational spending.
One of the only compelling parts of season 2 really (apart from the Etonian Marketeer) is when the Chairman looses the run of himself trying to sign Will Griggs. All through the season he goes on about reckless spending but when the transfer window is closing vastly overspends on a player against all good advice. You can see in his eyes how he is losing it, itâs a mixture of fear of a fan reaction for not signing a striker and a âfeelingâ the guy would come up trumps, and the Chairman could he the hero. Itâs no surprise that you have this odd relationship between fans and clubs when you have lads like that coming in and dropping millions like that.
He also tries to push the blame onto the manager, saying he got the manager the player he requested. Even though there was a clip where the manager told him he felt Grigg wasnât worth any more than the 1.25m offer they had made at that point.
I watched about 30 minutes of the first episode last night before turning it off. Iâll only watch it again if someone tells me everyone in it dies horrendously. Murica is some shithole.
Watched 10 mins of that new episode. Had to turn it off. Stank of talking dead style. No interest in interviews with cast and opinions of random people.
Watching Monzon a drama about former Argentinian world middleweight champion Carlos Monzon who was accused of murdering his wife in the the 1980s. Itâs well made, chronicling Monzons rise from extreme poverty to World Champion while also covering the murder investigation. Really enjoyable so far.
Theyâd remind you of a lot of wanâs working in the civil service. No cant be done, well never be able to do that,i wouldnât bother etc etc.The posh lad surely done a clearout during the off season if he had any wit.
I started the doc around Paul âGazzaâ Gascoigne last evening after finishing off the Sunderland doc. Iâd say the Gazza doc was shot a few years ago as he doesnât look too bad in it. Itâs a bit light tbh but Iâm only up as far as the WC quarter finals in 1990.
There was a bit more to it all than that though, telling the NI girl to fetch him a beer and the fans liaison lad that he liked his idea of rewarding fan loyalty but wanted to get back to his own idea as it better maximised profits gave a bit more insight to him. I think I read that all the staff are still there but Charlie had to fall on his sword after letting slip his true thoughts on the local people at a fans meeting.
Itâs not something Iâd have watched but for the lockdown, the thing that surprised me most is the amount of southern accents in the playing squad. A lad moving from Hemel Hempstead to Sunderland would get some shock, itâs no wonder the league one âwagâ was so worried about depression.
I enjoyed Ozark. Thought it was decent.
Not Netflix related but steaming related.
The Mafia Only Kills in Summer. Watched the first episode. Worth sticking with?
