Not because he was black, more so he had a platform as a transcendent icon which very few will ever have and he choose not to use it when it would have made a difference and not have had a negative impact on his image or standing.
Coming from North Carolina and knowing the man Jesse Helms was and what he stood for yet he stood back and said nothing. If this was a sports star from an Irish nationalist background with the same platform at the same time and they kept quiet if one of his own was running against a hardline DUP member because Unionists buy merchandise too he would rightly be called out for it too.
