Neither are anywhere near Jordan in terms of profile or popular culture impact. Jordan has name recognition the world over that those two could only dream of. Neither really transcend their sports in any meaningful way.

What level of activism would have satisfied you so he wasnât classified by someone like you as an uncle tom? Dipping in and out of elections to get whoever was designated as the âblackâ candidate voted in or full on MLK, Ali, Kapernick levels? Should he have started giving lectures? Whats the threshold here? Does he then knock it on the head if he notices any dip in performance?
He transcended football alright at his peak and has done a lot of good work fronting campaigns for the likes of Unicef and drawing peoples attention to poverty around the world and showed a bit of empathy for his fellow man.
And? That is par for the course for any wealthy athlete in the US and nothing out of the ordinary. Jordan wasnât any average pro athlete he is one of the greats of all time across any sport who is known all over the world by people who have no interest in sport or have never seen a basketball game. He made his mark both inside and outside the game and had a huge popular cultural impact but he had the opportunity to do so much more and simply decided that it wasnât for him as it wasnât going to benefit him directly.

Like I said earlier if there was an Irish nationalist who had a similar profile to Jordan at the same time and he decided to keep their mouth shut so not to upset unionists which might be bad for business rather than speak up for a peace process and progress I think they would be rightly called out for it.
Transcendent players like Jordan only come about a few times a century. Like I say if people want to respect him for his single mindedness then go ahead but I think it is somewhat disappointing that all he really cared about was himself.
