Davey keogh says hello should be given a crack…
anytime I see the duds on tv , when they score a point or a goal, they always do a crowd shot of the hill
they always pan in on a lad with a bodhran who comes across as a self styled loud mouth Dublin wit
he should be given a shot

What about the fella with the tin foil Sam Maguire, he seems to know his stuff.
I put a tenner on Dave O’Leary @ 20/1 the last time Trap was under pressure as one of the lads in work saw him talking to Delaney in a restaurant somewhere.
I imagine he’d be a fair bit cheaper than the likes of O’Neill aswell

I would hate to see him get the job.
Wouldn’t be mad on him myself but he wouldn’t be the worst.
O’Neill plays a similar style to Trap and if it’s possible is even more stubborn with regard to picking players and sticking with them, so not sure why lads are so keen on him.

I don’t think he’s quite as negative as Trap in terms of defensiveness but he’s probably more stubborn/loyal. His preferred brand of football is certainly direct and focuses on set pieces but it’s not as inherently negative in terms of playing for draws etc. His team selections and blind spots can be infuriating though.
Can we agree here and now that there will be no discussion in this thread of the ridiculous betting market movements that come with managerial changes, eg Laurie Sanchez in to 66/1 from 75/1?

I think his style of football would suit Ireland-we don’t have the players to play a technically pleasant way of playing so we are never going to be playing pretty football. My problem with Trap is that he is overly negative and, if we do take the lead, we sit back and try to defend it(although this goes all the way back to Brian Kerr). I’d agree about O’Neill’s stubbornness alright but I think he would have a better knowledge of Irish players than Trap has.
We need to go back to the way we played under Mick McCarthy. Get the ball wide, get crosses in and get a few headers, lucky breaks, etc. The work hard, making it difficult for the opposition. Not Barcelona, but a lot better than we have now.
But where will we find another Doc?
No
We had Niall Quinn back then which made things easier, or at least removed alternative options. We do still score a large percentage of our goals from crosses and it’s been Trap’s preferred method of attack. I think he relied on it too much though and we lost any semblance of passing through the centre of midfield as a result.
O’Neill would certainly place plenty of reliance on the wingers, and I think/hope McGeady and Brady with support from Pilkington and McClean will be the focus of our attacks under any new manager.
