McCarthy effectively walked out of Ipswich coming to the end of a season after keeping them up/competitive. They were in the playoffs two years in a row, then mid table for another two years. McCarthy left them at the end of 2017/18 in 12th on 60 points, the following season they finished rock bottom on 31 points.
