Official 2011 All Ireland Hurling Championship Thread

The structure seems fair enough, you can’t hide the fact that their are pretty big gaps between groupings of teams. Antrim got the luck of the draw which is pretty unavoidable.

The problem is there are too many weaker teams so one is always likely to slip through.

You’ll generally only have 3 top levels teams (this year Limerick, Cork and Galway) but you have 5 from the weaker counties (Laois, Carlow, Clare, Antrim and Wexford).

Exactly. The losing provincial semi-finalists should not play and knock each other out - they should be seeded and get to play the absolute dross like Carlow, Antrim, Laois and Cork first. And whittle it down from that starting point until 2 teams emerge to play the losing provincial finalists in quarter finals.

Base it on league position?

Great times down DĂ©ise way, with both minor and senior teams in munster final. Both teams are underdogs, nonetheless, first time it has been achieved since Cork mid 80s.

Really looking forward to the minor match, but those assertions are for the other thread

Senior will see at least one change, with Wayne Hutchinson out. Richie Foley will come in, but would fancy there will be morechnges than that. Davy normally awards form in training, and that puts Kelly, Kearney and Pendergast in the picture.

Tipp forwards are lethal though, but last time they were AI champions, we softened their cough down in the Pairc. If we give them a good rattle though we will improve further, its a very young team and, the future is bright enough
Hope rather than expectation for me.

This Tipp side is a vastly superior outfit to 01 but Waterford should have enough to at least rattle them. Waterfords record of retaining Munster tiltes is as abysmal as Tipps record of retaining All-Irelands. Shane Walsh is a vastly under-estimated forward but he lacks a distributor of the caliber of Bonnie Maher. That lads knack of finding the right player in the right position is remarkable espicially when you consider the speed he’s operating at and more often than not from tight positions. Waterfords full back line has been there achilles heel the last copuple of years conceding too many soft goals and I dont expect much respite for them this Sunday. Putting Brick Walsh back there is not the answer either as he’s wasted in any position if he’s not wearing the no 6 on his back.

Tipperary have made one change to their team to play Waterford in the Munster Senior Hurling final next Sunday.

Paddy Stapleton returns to the team in place of David Young.

Stapleton will start at right corner-back and John O’Keeffe moves to right wing-back.

Stapleton came on as a substitute when the Premier beat Clare 4-19 to 1-19 in the semi-finals and are hot favourites going into the clash in Pairc Ui Chaoimh.

Tipperary team to play Waterford in the Munster Hurling Championship final in Pairc Ui Chaoimh on Sunday, throw-in 4pm:

Brendan Cummins, Paddy Stapleton, Paul Curran, Michael Cahill, John O’Keeffe, Conor O’Mahony, Padraic Maher, Gearóid Ryan, Shane McGrath, Seamus Callanan, Noel McGrath, Patrick Maher, Eoin Kelly, John O’Brien, Lar Corbett

First time what has been achieved?

I had heard Mikey Cahill was doubtful still after CLD’s brother timbered him in that challenge game

Waterford were in the minor and senior final in 2009, they won the minor !

Presume he is on about the fact that both their minors and seniors have made the final three years running

Gotcha, forgot they were in last years too actually.

Is Galway vs Cork live on tv ?

Limericks Live 95fm will be stretched to get both games covered.

Normally I’d go but Phil reatardo , who usually provides B@B , is putting some ridiculous family occasion in Clare ahead of this vital game.

Up and back on the one day is still an option but as I won’t be driving it is a long haul.
