Think this could be the final nail in this Tyrone team were my prediction to be right. Longford have a decent side and are very good at home. Theyâll be outsiders, but i think its time for their big scalp. Home advantage should win most of the games IMO.
TV3 get first call on the Round 2 Football Qualfiers. I fully expect to see them in O Moore Park on Saturday week. RTĂ will most likely plump for Meath Galway.
From doyen of the forum Ciaran Murphyâs weekly column
Speaking of qualifiers, I was in one of the most quietly iconic of qualifier venues on Saturday evening for Wicklowâs brilliant win over Sligo, in Aughrim. The home team further burnished their qualifier record with a brilliant 1-18 to 0-16 win, which was celebrated in fine style at the final whistle.
The drill at full-time in these games is usually cheerfully chaotic â you march out onto the field and try and grab everyone and anyone of interest. The key man on Saturday evening for Wicklow was without doubt James Stafford so I walked over to see if heâd trouble us for a few words. He said no bother, I gave the signal to the commentary box and as I waited to get my cue he said âis this live?â
I said yeah, and started my intro, by which time James had taken it in his head he couldnât trust himself if it was live and ran off! So I was left with no guest and a fit of laughter to contend with. Better than any post-match interview!
TV3 to show Laois v Kildare in Rd 2 football qualifiers. 7pm throw in
Obvious choice, nice bit of background to this one, bit of bite and needle to boot, not to mention the two Mullaghbawn lads. Iâve since changed my earlier thought and think RTĂ might go for Tyrone v Longford. While Longford is a burial ground, I dont think this Tyrone side will be buried there, it will happen most likely in Croker later on.
Iâve talked to four people who were at the Kildare Dublin game yesterday.
2 Dubs said it was a free.
1 Kildare said it wasnât a free.
(obviously enough)
1 Neutral said it was a free.
All 3 who said it was a free said your man was pulling and tearing out of Brogan before the ball came near em and that RTE cameras missed what the free was for.
Iâm not a neutral but twas a soft free alright. Bernard could have gotten 7-8 of frees for similar fouls during the whole match, so why he gave it when he did baffles me. But still weâll take it thanks
Kildare didnât lose it on the last free of the game. If they canât see that theyâre even thicker than a fair few of them came across yesterday
Still no decision on this one Runt, Offaly being told itâll be the 9th or 10th so would assume theyâre trying to make it happen.
Great to see London get Waterford at home. Theyâll win that hopefully and continue to pick up momentum. Is it true they have been working out of Wasps RFC over the course of the year?
Replays on telly. They slowed it right down. If you think that was a free then there were probably 60 or 70 similar incidents with frees not given during the game.
It happened right in front of us. Brogan was being held back by the Flourbag. According to friends who saw TSG last night they didnât show the actual free, just what they (RTE) thought the free was for
I suppose my point is just that that sort of thing goes on off the ball for 70 minutes. And indeed worse things âon the ballâ go unpunished.
You obviously have a bigger range of vision when youâre there but you only get to see it once and in realtime. TSG obviously showed it slowed down but possibly missed the start of it. Iâm sure the ref hasnât come out and said the foul was before the replays picked it up though, so how do you purport to know what he gave it for?
