Official Dublin City Marathon 2014 Thread

tonight
2miles w/u + 9 miles @6.30 m/m + 1.5 mile c/d

That’s a serious pace fp.

16 miles tonight, just under 2.10 - a plodding 8 minute mile pace. Not feeling too bad after it. The 26.2 on 27 October looking a bit more feasible now.

Tonight 7miles easy

Just after entering the Phoenix Park Half Marathon on 20 September.

I’ve run that the last three years. Will miss it this year. Great race.

Ran it last year in 1.52 not having trained particularly hard and after foolishly having a few drinks at a function the night before. It was a punishingly hot day for it last year as well. Will be very disappointed if I don’t dip under 1.45 this time around.

Ran it in 1.22 last year. I’m in much better shape now (I think). It’s a challenging half.

Yeah, the latter stages of it are quite hilly on the Chapelizod side of the park.

13 miles this morning, including 5k tempo @5.50 m/m.

@Rocko, can we get a TFK T-shirt to fenway for the marathon?

@fenwaypark have you moved to Dublin for good ,?

I have been living since 2001 (when I moved back from Boston). Can’t see us moving now. We bought a house in past year and Mrs FWP is happy aswell.

21 miles this morning @7.04 m/m.

7 recovery miles tonight.

Started a 6-week temping contract today out in Ashtown. Might have to abandon this idea.

Fucking work. I hate it.

Is running to and from work an option at all? A lunch time run to clear the head?

Go for it thrawneen. You obviously are a natural, as is FP, albeit one with a lot more discipline. I’d actually be inclined to agree with Kev in that chronic long distance road running is worse for you than interval type off road training, but each to his own. Beats the fuck out of obesity whatever.

Key to longevity at road running is training smarter. ‘Run your easy runs easy and your sessions hard’. I made the world of mistakes when I started running more ‘seriously’ a few years back. I picked up the usual injuries, but they were all self inflicted.

I would not consider myself to have much natural talent flatty. I’m at a decent club standard level. I enjoy the running immensely and find it great to keep the demons at bay.

Commuting from Kilcoole in Wicklow to Ashtown in west Dublin so unfortunately not  You’d be in some nick if you could do that. Going to try and go out tonight anyway but I can’t see myself having the time now to get the fitness. We’ll see in a couple of weeks. Today was always going to be a shock to the system, especially after having a few pints yesterday…
